No Plans To Raise Rates: GCMMF MD Jayen Mehta On Amul Milk Price Hikes

April 11, 2023: When GCMMF Managing Director Jayen Mehta was asked about milk prices, he said, “We have no plans to increase the prices at the moment.”

Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Limited (GCMMF), which sells milk products under the Amul brand, currently has no plans to increase milk prices. When GCMMF Managing Director Jayen Mehta was asked about milk prices, he said, “We have no plans to increase the prices at the moment.” He said the cost price has gone up by 15 per cent in a year, due to which the union had to increase the retail price slightly last year.

Earlier in the month, the price of Amul milk in Gujarat was increased by Rs.2 per litre. Earlier in February, the price of Amul milk was increased by two rupees per liter in other states of the country.

Mehta said the GCMMF did not increase prices in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid pandemic, but prices were increased on several occasions last year. He said that GCMMF gives about 80 percent of the retail price to the milk producing farmers.

Amid growing demand for milk, the company has projected a 20 percent increase in revenue for FY 2023-24 to Rs. 66,000 crore has been estimated.

GCMMF said demand for dairy products increased significantly in the post-Covid period, which led to strong revenue growth for the company last fiscal.

Jayen Mehta said he expects sales momentum in his products to continue as demand in the sector is shifting from unorganized to organized players.

When asked about the milk prices, the MD of GCMMF said, “We have no plans to increase the rates at present.”
