Now Experience Terminal 2 of Bengaluru Airport in Metaverse: BLR Metaport
December 16, 2022: Metaport – which offers an immersive, three-dimensional (3D) virtual experience of T2 of the BLR airport – has been created in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Polygon.
First, passengers can experience the metaverse of the newly launched Terminal 2 of Bengaluru Airport. Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), the operator of Kempegowda International Airport, or Bangalore (BLR Airport), has announced the launch of the first phase of the ‘BLR Metaport’.
BIAL said in a statement that this is the first airport terminal in the world to offer fliers a Metaverse experience. Metaport – which offers an immersive, three-dimensional (3D) virtual experience of T2 of the BLR airport – has been created in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Polygon.
BLR Metaport’s 3D interface, designed to provide an enhanced digital experience for travelers, will offer new ways for customers to interact with the airport, such as checking into flights, navigating terminals, shopping and social aspects like connecting with other travelers.
“Interested travelers and the public can log on to www.blrmetaport.com and virtually visit the new state-of-the-art terminal and navigate using their smart devices,” according to the statement.
Metaport is an outgrowth of the Joint Innovation Center (JIC), which was announced in April 2022 by BIAL, AWS and Intel.
JIC focuses on the development and adoption of digital solutions in aviation. “For BIAL, JIC’s mission is to leverage emerging technologies to create new business models and passenger experiences and to be at the forefront of technological innovation in India’s commercial aviation,” the statement said.
BLR Metaport’s 3D interface, designed to provide an enhanced digital experience for travelers, will offer new ways for customers to interact with the airport, such as checking into flights, navigating terminals, shopping and social aspects like connecting with other travelers.
Satyaki Raghunath, Chief Strategy and Development Officer, BIAL said, “This is our first foray into the world of Web3 and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), and we aim to delight travelers with a unique, immersive and virtual experience.”
Metaport uses the ‘Polygon Blockchain’ and is built on the basic principles of decentralization, where control and decision-making is transferred from a centralized organization to a distributed network. The BLR Metaport platform is built on AWS, the statement said.
