Interview with Pallavi Singh, Founder of the agritech venture, OG Agro
Pallavi Singh is a bidding sensation on Instagram and her passion for holistic well-being makes her content stand out.
She has an enriching stint as an epidemiologist and has been a psychology student which drives her to focus on both physical and mental wellness.
As the founder and Chief Editor of TDG Magazine, she seems to have a knack for make-up and simplifies the right choice of products for all women along with an interest in fashion, lifestyle, grooming, travel, and entertainment.
She has worked for Indian and International brands like Garmin, Maybelline, Lakme, Nykaa, L’Oreal Paris, and Neutrogena etc. She reviews products based on her experiences which adds to her authenticity.
Few of her extended arms as a blogger lie in cooking as well as health and fitness. Her latest venture about Organic Gold Agriculture has helped India understand the concepts of organic farming with greater intensity.
Tell us a little about yourself
Pallavi Singh: I am a doctor by degree and did my master’s in public health and was working as an epidemiologist till I switched to content creation full-time!
When I started blogging as a hobby, I didn’t know it would be my actual profession at some point but here I am today, doing this for nine years!
Now I am pursuing another master’s in psychology since I want to take up mental health professionally too now!
I am also working on other personal projects parallelly including an agritech venture called OG Agro, where we make agricultural products like vermicompost, vermi wash, and Vermiwash products to name some besides organic vegetable farming.
I feel like I am a cat who has nine lives, and I am just getting started!
Family wise I think I am really blessed; I have the best parents who’ve always encouraged us (me & my siblings) to follow our hearts! I have a beautiful bond with all my siblings, we are four kids & we have a blast when we’re together.
I got married last year and my husband is also very supportive of my personal and professional aspirations, always pushing me to do better & his family loves me!
What made you decide to pursue a career as an influencer?
Pallavi Singh: Can I call it a fluke? I was working at an MNC in Hyderabad and on weekends I wouldn’t have much to do & I didn’t know many people there, so I just started blogging to express my alter ego (one who loved fashion and styling).
It just picked up for me & there came a point where my job got hectic (I was at Novartis then) and this too needed more hours.
I was already making a lot more money in this than as a salaried individual, so I decided to give myself a year of trying this full time thinking I’ll just go back to corporate life if it didn’t work out but years later this is what I am still doing full time.
I’ll be honest here I love how you can make good money and you get to be your own boss plus all the travel, meeting new people, and working with the best of brands; I am super grateful for my career as a blogger/creator.
What type of content do you typically post?
Pallavi Singh: I do a mix of fashion, lifestyle, beauty & travel. I love doing a bit of everything so I can’t stick to one genre.
That’s not me. I need to do anything & everything. I want to get into mental health too and be able to talk about real-time issues with time.
What are some of the challenges you face when it comes to working with wellness brands?
Pallavi Singh: I think the wellness industry in our country is still more focused on short-term goals, I mean minus certain brands of course.
But it’s more trying to sell the product than helping people build a healthier lifestyle, I think the approach needs to be tweaked a little which is why I do have to turn down a lot of work as it doesn’t go with my belief system.
How do you measure success when it comes to your online presence?
Pallavi Singh: For me, it’s about whether am I enjoying what I am doing. Can I be me with what I am doing, or do I need to mold my personality to fit in?
Am I staying true to my audience? I think these are certain questions I ask myself to quantify my success. In my head, I am not competing with anyone but just myself and my personal journey online.
What are some of your favourite products or brands to work with?
Pallavi Singh: I enjoy working with each brand and sometimes a product that I work I am asked to compromise on my creative freedom. However, every project is special to me!
What was the inspiration behind turning an influencer?
Pallavi Singh: I actually don’t like the term influencer to be honest because I don’t know who I am influencing and with what and when I started this, it was more to do with sharing and creating. I just wanted to express myself and my love for everything I do and that’s how I started!
What advice would you give to someone who is looking to get into influencer marketing?
Pallavi Singh: Stay true to yourself & your audience. Don’t let the naysayers get to you. Keep evolving & keep working. Stay grounded. Do it because you love it don’t just do it because everyone seems to be doing it or it looks fun. A lot of work goes into the process, so stay passionate!
If you had one piece of advice for someone just starting out, what would it be?
Stay persistent!
What is your success tips for young and aspiring entrepreneurs?
Pallavi Singh: I am a little old school maybe to say this but don’t ignore your education, I think that’s very important!
Learn how to network (the introvert in me still struggles with it but it’s highly important), work hard, stay persistent, and be passionate but also don’t ignore your physical & mental health in the grind. Don’t fall for that hustle culture, know how to balance!
