Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the creation of Powerlook? What Motivated you to start this fashion brand?

Raghvendra Pawar: Powerlook, the emerging Mumbai-based menswear brand, was founded in 2010 by Raghav and Amar Pawar, with the goal of providing India with chic, budget-friendly but high-street fashionable clothes. The creators claim that Powerlook intends to provide India with a brand that is high-street, stylish and has Western accents in addition to being reasonably priced.

Powerlook was born out of a simple yet compelling idea: to provide stylish apparel at affordable prices. Back in our college days, my brother and I faced the challenge of finding trendy clothes that fit our budget. This experience inspired us to create Powerlook, bridging the gap in the market for fast fashion that’s accessible to everyone.

What sets Powerlook apart from other fashion brands in the market?

Raghvendra Pawar: What really helps Powerlook stand out from the competition is the fact that its ability to sell low-cost products at a decent quality. Powerlook stands out from other fashion brands with its unique offerings. We are the first to introduce the latest international designs to the Indian market, featuring structural fabrics and a range of oversized shirts and t-shirts that redefine comfort and style.

These days the men’s fashion world is changing as fast as women’s fashion so in seeking new trends men don’t hesitate to wear new colours. So powerlook is always seeking to provide the latest trends like baggy jeans and carpenter-style cargo pants are the latest production we have introduced for bottom wear and textured shirts with stripe and check designs.

How do you ensure that Powerlook stays relevant and adaptive to evolving fashion trends?

Raghvendra Pawar: At Powerlook, we stay ahead of the curve by closely monitoring new trends, which typically reach India after 2-3 years. We bring these styles to the Indian market within 2 months, adapting them to suit Indian tastes, demands, and climate. This approach ensures that we remain relevant and adaptive to evolving fashion trends

Earlier we were targeting the age group of 18 to 24 but recently we have created a collection where we can target different categories in different interest groups of users. PowerLook is an aspirational brand because it competes with other market leaders like Zara and H&M in terms of style at a lower price and premium quality.

Could you walk us through the process of designing and creating a collection at Powerlook?

Raghvendra Pawar: Designing a collection at Powerlook begins with extensive research on the new trends, typically taking about one month. Next, we select fabrics, which usually takes an additional 2 months. Once finalized, the collection goes into production and is launched in the market.

Key product categories – oversize T-shirt and oversize shirt with back prints and for bottom carpenter style baggy pants. Our main top-selling categories, Shirts and tshirts started the country, but we are also aiming to improve in the other category of bottom wear and jackets as well. Where are average selling price lies between 500 to 650. Best sellers –  oversize t-shirts and oversize shirt with back prints.

What challenges did you face while building Powerlook, and how did you Overcome them?

Raghvendra Pawar: “The menswear industry is driven by companies that demand exorbitant prices from their clients”, says Raghav, who aims to upend this market by bridging this gap and enabling clients to build contemporary, well-fitted and distinctive costumes at off-the-rack prices.

By cutting out the middlemen and working directly with the best fabric distributors, “we found we can pass along our savings to you at a lower price,” he adds.

Building Powerlook came with its set of challenges. Initially, there was a lack of awareness among customers regarding streetwear styles. Additionally, streetwear fashion changes rapidly, requiring us to produce stock in quantities that would sell within a limited time to avoid dead stock. Another challenge was providing premium quality at affordable prices.

The major challenge we face to date is merchandising and sourcing. We overcame these challenges through strategic marketing to raise awareness, closely monitoring trends to manage stock effectively, and sourcing materials efficiently to maintain quality while keeping prices competitive.

What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs looking to venture into the fashion industry based on your own experiences with Powerlook?

Raghvendra Pawar: My advice to aspiring entrepreneurs in the fashion industry is to stay true to your vision, keep a close eye on trends, and be adaptable to change. Additionally, focus on providing unique value to your customers and always prioritise quality and affordability. 

Mr. Amar Pawar, Co-founder of Powerlook believes, “One secret mantra that has always worked for him & his brand is how a brand retains control of its whole niche and provides a superior customer experience, especially when a substantial number of consumers frequently go on to become brand champions, helping to spread the word further.”

The emergence of direct-to-consumer companies has resulted in more competition and choice (which is always a good thing for the consumer), as well as a clear focus on quality, transparency, and social responsibility. And there’s no doubt other entrepreneurs will thrive if they too stick to these customer ideologies.
