An Exclusive Interview with Rajat Bhandari, Managing Director of Neokavach
In this exclusive conversation, Rajat Bhandari, Managing Director of Neokavach, shares his insights on leadership, innovation, and building a future-ready organization.
With a vision to drive impactful growth, he discusses the company’s journey, challenges, and path forward, offering valuable lessons for aspiring entrepreneurs and industry leaders.
What inspired the creation of Neo Kavach and how does it address the safety gap for India’s two-wheeler riders?
Rajat Bhandari: India loses a heartbreaking share of lives on two-wheelers—government data shows ~44–45% of all road-crash fatalities are two-wheeler riders, year after year.
We built Neo Kavach with the intent to fill that gap with a wearable airbag that rapidly cushions the vitals organs like the chest, spine, neck in a crash, adding a new layer over helmets and jackets.
By choosing a proven mechanical tether system (no charging, no apps), we designed for everyday Indian riding—short hops, city commutes, and rough roads—where simple, robust tech saves lives.
How does your mechanical tether–based airbag vest differ from the electronic systems available overseas?
Rajat Bhandari: Electronic vests use sensors and algorithms, usually cost more, and need charging; electronic vests also cause false inflations when used on bad roads, posing a major threat to riders.
Our mechanical system uses a lanyard tethered to the bike that triggers a CO₂ canister on experiencing a jerk or violent separation—inflating within ~100 ms—with no batteries, firmware, or false-trigger worries.
It’s field-proven globally (Helite lineage) and is ideal for India’s “grab-and-ride” use: clip in and go. Technically: big inflation volume, spine-to-sternum coverage; practically: fewer failure modes, easier ownership.
What role do affordability and reusability play in Neo Kavach’s design and adoption in India?
Rajat Bhandari: They’re central. Imported electronic vests typically retail in India around ₹70k–95k+, putting them out of reach for most daily riders.
A mechanical system lets us price significantly lower while keeping top-tier protection. After a deployment, riders simply replace the CO₂ cartridge and ride again—no factory rebuilds—bringing ongoing ownership cost way down.
That combination (lower upfront + affordable resets) is what can move wearable airbag tech from superbikes class to mid range riders at scale.
What certifications and safety assurances validate Neo Kavach’s reliability?
Rajat Bhandari: Neo Kavach is built on CE-certified Airbag Technology from Helite’s Mechanical Trigger System and its certification signifies that the products meet the requirements of the EU regulation 2016/425 concerning Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Mechanical systems of this class are documented to inflate in ≤~100 ms and stabilise the torso and cervical region before ground impact.
We’ll share third-party test reports and conformity documents with partners and regulators as part of our roll-out.
How do you see Neo Kavach expanding beyond motorcycling—into military, construction, or elderly care?
Rajat Bhandari: The same rapid-inflation principles or our Airbag Technology apply wherever falls or blunt-force impacts are the threat.
Helite has even developed wearable airbag belts for seniors’ hip protection and industrial fall-mitigation vests for industrial commission at height; our roadmap includes airbag technology utilised beyond two-wheeler safety into e-commerce delivery fleets, seeding automotive OEMs, exploring safety gaps in sports and adventure activities, industrial safety, and construction sectors.
The brand also envisions applications for our defence sector and armed forces, where impact protection and rugged reliability are critical.
With its reusable, robust, and certified systems, Neo Kavach is set to redefine personal safety across diverse industries.
What are your plans for scaling in India and exporting to the UK/US?
Rajat Bhandari: Our plans to export Neo Kavach products are set to happen by mid 2026with distribution channels set to open via our distributors, OEM tie-ups and through safety continuous rider clubs.
For exports we’re also targeting to touch base with channel partners in the UK/US where Helite Airbag systems are already appreciated and well accepted.
In this way we shall ensure to be soon available in the international market within a year of our first batch of exports.
Rajat Bhandari’s journey with Neokavach reflects determination, foresight, and purpose-driven leadership. His insights highlight how resilience and innovation can create lasting impact.
As Neokavach continues to evolve, his vision sets a benchmark for growth and inspiration, reaffirming the power of strong leadership and clear direction in shaping the future of business and technology.
