How Ravinder Goel Made Little Nap the Go-To for Ultimate Relaxation

An Exclusive Interview with Ravinder Goel, Founder & CEO of Little Nap Recliners

In this exclusive interview, Ravinder Goel, Founder & CEO of Little Nap Recliners, reveals how his passion for comfort transformed a simple idea into India’s leading recliner brand, blending innovation, design, and wellness for modern homes.

What inspired you to found Little Nap Recliners and how did your personal experiences shape this venture?

Ravinder Goel: The inspiration came long before Little Nap existed. I grew up in a middle-class household where furniture stayed with us for decades. We didn’t change it often, but we lived with it every single day. What stayed with me wasn’t the design or the fabric, but how that furniture made us feel after a long day.

Later, during my years in sales after completing my MBA, I saw a clear gap in the furniture industry. People were buying furniture to fill space, not to improve comfort. Recliners, in particular, were seen as imported luxuries, not everyday comfort solutions.

In 2011, I decided to change that. With just ₹5 lakhs of borrowed capital, a three-person team and a small rented space, Little Nap was born. Those early years shaped everything about the company from resourcefulness and patience to deep customer empathy. That mindset still defines us today.

What makes Little Nap Recliners stand out in terms of design, comfort and functionality?

Ravinder Goel: Here’s the thing: Comfort is not decoration, it’s engineering. At Little Nap, we design around the human body first. Posture, lumbar support, seat depth, glide movement and long-term durability are non-negotiables for us. Every recliner is built to feel right, not just look good.

We also recognise that comfort isn’t one-size-fits-all. That’s why we offer multiple mechanisms, seating densities, materials and customisation options. Whether it’s a living room, a home cinema, multiplex or a hospital lounge, the product adapts to the user, not the other way around.

As CEO, what’s your approach to scaling the company while maintaining quality and affordability?

Ravinder Goel: Scale only works when fundamentals are strong. Instead of outsourcing critical processes, we invested early in our own manufacturing. Today, we operate two manufacturing units with disciplined 67 quality checks and skilled teams. We focus on systems, people and process not shortcuts.

Affordability doesn’t come from lowering standards. It comes from efficiency, learning and control over the supply chain. That balance allows us to scale without compromising the experience we promise customers.

What’s the biggest hurdle you’ve overcome in building Little Nap and what key lesson did it teach you?

Ravinder Goel: The biggest hurdle was trust. In the early days, there was no established recliner category in India. Customers didn’t fully understand the product, distributors didn’t know how to sell it and technicians didn’t know how to service it. On top of that, we were an Indian brand with no legacy or big marketing budgets.

Financially, the struggle was real. We worked out of a small rented space, salaries and rent were often paid through borrowed credit cards and I handled everything myself sales, dispatch, quality checks and customer issues.

The lesson was simple but powerful: when the market doesn’t exist, you don’t force it. You build it patiently. Let your product do the talking and trust follows.

How do you ensure your products cater to diverse needs — from different body types to aesthetics?

Ravinder Goel: Human comfort is deeply personal. Our customers range from young professionals and families to senior citizens, cinema owners and hospital patients. Each use case demands a different solution.

That’s why we start at the very foundation: hand-picked raw materials. From the wood used in the frame to foams, fabrics, leathers and mechanisms, every component is selected for durability, support and long-term comfort. On top of that, we offer varied recline mechanisms, seat firmness options, dimensions and fully custom builds.

Designing for diversity forces us to think deeper, test harder and never assume that comfort means the same thing for everyone.

Where do you see Little Nap in the next five years — any exciting expansions or new product lines?

Ravinder Goel: We’re expanding on three fronts: products, presence and partnerships. Today, we operate two manufacturing units, 17 exclusive showrooms, have installed seating across 1,000+ cinema screens and are supported by a team of over 470 people. We’ve also strengthened our portfolio through global partnerships with La-Z-Boy (USA) and Seating Spectrum (Malaysia).

Over the next five years, my vision is to enter new comfort categories, add 50 more showrooms and significantly expand our global footprint through franchise-led growth across India. We will continue to deepen our presence in cinema seating in both India and international markets.

We’ve recently begun manufacturing standard cinema and auditorium chairs through our new joint venture, AC Seating, powered by Malaysian technology. Alongside this, we are scaling our OEM manufacturing for multiple furniture brands and plan to penetrate further into India, the UAE and Africa.

Our long-term target is clear: to build best-in-class comfort solutions from India for the world and achieve ₹500 crore in revenue by 2030.

If you could give one piece of advice to aspiring entrepreneurs in the furniture industry, what would it be?

Ravinder Goel: This industry rewards consistency, not speed. Furniture is not a quick-turn business. It takes time to design thoughtfully, prototype responsibly, manufacture at scale and most importantly, earn customer trust.

Shortcuts may look tempting early on, but they always show up later in quality, service, or credibility. Focus on building real capabilities: strong processes, skilled teams and dependable systems.

Invest deeply in yourself and your people. Train them, empower them and respect the craft. Good furniture is the outcome of hundreds of small decisions made right, every single day.

Stay obsessively close to the customer. Listen daily. Let real feedback guide your designs, not assumptions or trends. I firmly believe the customer is God, because without them, nothing else matters.

Through my association with the furniture ecosystem and my role as Vice President at AFMT, I’ve seen one truth repeat itself across brands and generations: those who prioritize integrity, learning and long-term thinking are the ones who last.

And finally, don’t be afraid to take risks. Growth demands courage. Risk hai, toh ishq hai.

Ravinder Goel’s vision for Little Nap Recliners proves that true comfort starts with bold innovation. As he eyes global expansion, his insights inspire entrepreneurs to recline into success with purpose and style.
