As we all know it is very easy to make Khaman in a steamer but in this homemade recipe I tried to make same Dhokla in the microwave and that also in Mug.
Today I am going to share my microwave mug khaman recipe with you. It tastes the same but serving style is different, so you can make it as a single serving.
Recipe of Khaman Dhokla: Microwave Mug Dhokla.

- Preparation time – 5 minutes
- Cooking time – 5 minutes
- Makes 3 mug khaman dhokla (150 ml mug)
Ingredients to make Mug Khaman Dhokla in Microwave:
- 1 cup besan/gram flour
- Pinch turmeric powder
- Pinch hing/asafoetida
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger paste
- 1/2 teaspoon green chili paste
- Salt to taste
- 2 teaspoon powder sugar 1/2 cup curd
- 2 tablespoon fruit salt
For Tadka / Tempering:
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 2 teaspoon sesame seeds
- 2 green chilies sliced
- 8 to 10 curry leaves
- 1/4 cup water
For Garnishing:
- Chopped coriander
- Grated fresh coconut
To serve with:
Besan chutney
Method to make Mug Khaman Dhokla in Microwave:
For Khaman Dhokla:
- In a mixing bowl add besan, turmeric powder, hing, salt, oil, chili-ginger paste, sugar and curd. MIx well. Now add water to make a smooth batter.
- Grease mugs and keep aside.
- Add the fruit salt and a spoon full of water to batter. Mix gently. Pour the mixture in mug and tap.
- Cook them in the microwave for 3 minutes at high temperature. Check it if needed again cook for 30 seconds. (Cooking time may be different as per the brand of microwave)
- Keep aside.
For Tadka / Tempering:
Heat oil in a saucepan and add mustard seeds to it. When they crackle add curry leaves, sesame seeds and green chilies at slow flame. Now add water and cook for few seconds. Pour hot tadka over mug khaman dhokla.
For chutney:
- In a saucepan add 1/4 cup curd, 1/4 cup besan and 1/2 cup water. Whisk properly and then add salt, green chili and pinch turmeric powder to it.
- Mix properly and cook until thick. Remove and make tadka of 1/2 teaspoon oil and 1/4 teaspoon mustard seeds over it.
