Samudragupta Talukdar

An interview with Mr. Samudragupta Talukdar, Founder & CEO of Relata

In this exclusive interview, Samudragupta Talukdar, Founder and CEO of Relata, takes us through his inspiring entrepreneurial journey, offering insights into how his platform is transforming the real estate industry.

Relata, a “Realty Sales Accelerator,” addresses key pain points in real estate sales by combining cutting-edge technology with personalized services.

Talukdar shares his vision for a more efficient, digital-first industry and talks about the challenges, innovations, and AI-driven solutions that are shaping the future of property sales.

To start, could you share your entrepreneurial journey with us?

Samudragupta Talukdar: For an entrepreneur, I believe three things are essential – Jubaan (voice), Jazbaat (passion), and Jugaad (resourcefulness). These have been my secret weapons throughout my journey.

Like any typical Indian family, my parents dreamed of me landing a secure government job. But life had different plans. It all started in 2006 during a college project where we had to create mock companies.

I named mine Samiance Blue Pearl, inspired by Reliance and, believe it or not, Jack Sparrow’s ship! Those leadership experiences, from being college president to now leading Relata, have been quite a ride.

The real turning point came on January 8, 2009, while I was at Satyam Computers. The company’s infamous crisis opened my eyes to how leadership decisions can impact thousands of lives. That was my wake-up call – I knew I had to create something meaningful of my own.

After gathering experience across organisations, I took my first entrepreneurial step post-2013 after leaving Xerox. Started with freelancing, then launched my first services company. Those five years were tough, filled with setbacks and struggles. But they led me to something bigger & that is Relata.

Starting up isn’t a smooth sail – it’s more like a rollercoaster with unexpected drops and rises. & What I’ve learned is that three things are non-negotiable in entrepreneurship: Truth, Transparency, and Communication.

Relata is described as a “Realty Sales Accelerator.” Can you walk us through how the platform works and how it directly impacts sales teams in the real estate industry?

Samudragupta Talukdar: Our journey as a “Realty Sales Accelerator” began with a simple observation – the industry needed more than just digitalisation; it needed a complete transformation in how sales teams operate.

The traditional methods weren’t keeping up with changing buyer behaviours, especially as millennials and Gen Z entered the market.

We built our platform by studying the pain points of each stakeholder, particularly sales teams. Think about it – in an industry where personal connections matter so much, our technology doesn’t replace the human touch; it enhances it.

We’ve created tools that help sales teams understand their customers better, respond faster, and close deals more efficiently.

A perfect example of our impact is in the numbers. When we look at conversion ratios, most real estate companies struggled with a standard 6-7% success rate.

But our technology-driven approach has helped our partners achieve much more. Take The Guardian’s case – we boosted their conversion rates from 8.3% to 11.47%, showing that the right tools can make a significant difference in closing sales.

What makes our platform unique is how it caters to what we call the 4B’s ecosystem – builders, brokers, bankers, and buyers. Each stakeholder has their own dashboard, analytics, and tools, but they’re all connected in a way that accelerates the entire sales process.

For sales teams, this means having everything they need at their fingertips – from customer preferences to transaction status, all in real-time. We’re focused on making sure sales teams have the tools they need to succeed in this growing landscape.

The real estate industry has traditionally relied on offline processes. How has Relata’s technology helped modernise the sales process for real estate professionals?

Samudragupta Talukdar: Traditional real estate sales have always been heavily dependent on face-to-face meetings, paper documentation, and manual tracking.

When we started Relata, we saw how these offline processes were creating bottlenecks, especially in a world where buyers were becoming increasingly digital-savvy. We focused on bridging this gap.

Our technology modernises every aspect of the sales process. Our platform addresses the entire ecosystem’s needs – what we call the 4B’s (builders, brokers, bankers, and buyers).

For real estate professionals, this means having digital tools that handle everything from lead management to documentation, virtual property showcases to customer relationship management. We’re essentially putting an entire sales office in their pocket.

Looking ahead, with millennials and Gen Z becoming the primary property buyers, modern sales processes aren’t just nice to have – they’re essential.

By 2030, we’re looking at a trillion-dollar industry, and success will depend on how well real estate professionals can adapt to digital-first sales processes while maintaining that crucial human connection.

Real estate sales often involve long sales cycles and complex negotiations. How does Relata optimise these cycles and improve efficiency for real estate agents and sales teams?

Samudragupta Talukdar: The traditional real estate sales cycle is filled with multiple touchpoints – from initial interest to final closure, each step can take weeks or even months.

At Relata, we’ve streamlined this process by digitising key interactions and automating routine tasks. Our platform helps sales teams maintain momentum throughout the buyer’s journey.

Working with The Guardian, we saw how technology can accelerate these cycles. By implementing our solutions, their conversion ratio jumped from 8.3% to 11.47% – this improvement came from optimising each stage of the sales process.

When leads are managed better, follow-ups are automated, and documentation is streamlined, the entire cycle moves faster.

Our system works like a smart assistant for sales teams. Instead of juggling multiple spreadsheets and manual follow-ups, they get an integrated platform that tracks every interaction, automates routine communications, and flags important decision points.

For real estate professionals, this means less time on paperwork and more time building relationships with potential buyers.

At the end of the day, it’s about making complex processes simple. Whether it’s managing 3,600 units like we did with Dosti Realty or helping individual agents track their leads, our technology ensures that no opportunity falls through the cracks and every sales cycle moves as efficiently as possible.

Could you provide details about your product launch, what was the inspiration behind it, challenges and what problems are you looking to solve through this new product?

Yes, you know, the whole idea for Relata Launch came from a simple observation – property launches are make-or-break moments in real estate, yet there wasn’t a dedicated solution for them. Teams were juggling multiple tools, losing leads, and honestly, it was a mess.

What inspired us is the desire to solve the problems, we saw real pain points everywhere like-

  • Sales teams drowning in WhatsApp messages and Excel sheets
  • Marketing teams stuck updating brochures manually
  • NRI customers struggling to make confident buying decisions remotely
  • Managers missing crucial data during launch days

So we built Relata Launch to solve this. Think of it as your entire launch command centre in one place. Sales and marketing teams work on the same platform, every lead is tracked automatically, PDF brochures replaced with dynamic digital experiences.

Making something powerful yet simple enough that people actually want to use it. We focused on creating a system that’s 10x faster to implement than traditional CRMs – we’re talking one week versus three months.

For NRI buyers, we’ve made distance a non-issue with virtual tours that feel like you’re actually there. And for management, everything from inventory to payments flows smoothly in real-time.

What really drives us is seeing launches transform from chaotic events into smooth, data-driven operations. That’s the real problem we’re solving – making launches less stressful and more successful for everyone involved.

How do you attract and retain top talent in the competitive proptech sector?

Samudragupta Talukdar: Our talent strategy is simple yet effective:

First, we hire for curiosity and leadership potential. Our track record shows – 1/3rd of our talent and 75% of our directors come from IITs, building one of the strongest product & tech teams in the industry.

But hiring is just the start. We’ve built two key retention pillars:

Growth-linked incentives that reward independent ownership. When our people grow, they grow their rewards too. A deliberately simple culture where open communication isn’t just encouraged – it’s celebrated. No complex hierarchies, just clear paths to make an impact.

It’s not about fancy perks. It’s about creating an environment where smart people can do their best work independently.

What does the future hold for Relata? Can you share any exciting developments or strategic directions you’re planning to take the company in the coming years?

What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs looking to enter the SaaS or real estate technology space?

Samudragupta Talukdar: Anyone who wants to work in realty space my advice is to focus on customer convenience while building a product.

Being an entrepreneur, I’ve experienced the pitfalls of burnout and realised the significance of self-care & to my fellow  young entrepreneurs struggling with work-life balance, my advice for you:

Chase your dreams while cherishing life’s little moments.

You will not miss anything. If you bring the right discipline and maintain a good timely balance. It’s all about finding harmony between work and play.

Rise early, seize the day, and finish day-to-day tasks on time so that it does not spill over the next.

Pick up a hobby for your leisure for example- cooking is a great stressbuster for me.  Sometimes I hit the road for a drive or head out for a trek. It’s all about finding balance to reflect and think.

As Samudragupta Talukdar looks to the future, Relata continues to push the boundaries of technology, empowering real estate professionals with smarter tools to streamline sales and enhance customer experience.

Through innovative solutions like AI-driven platforms Reiya and Arca, Relata is not only modernizing the real estate industry but also leading it into a new era of efficiency and growth.

For aspiring entrepreneurs, Talukdar’s journey serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of passion, persistence, and a balanced approach to success.
