Sanjay Dutt is an Indian actor of Hindi films. Several awards award him, including 2-filmfare awards & 3-screen awards.
Up to now he acted in 187 films. His film ranging is from romance to comedy, but mostly action films.

He established himself as one of the most popular actor of 1980’s, 1990’s 2000s & 2010s.
He made his acting debut in Rocky (1981), directed by his father Sunil Dutt.
The crime thriller Naam (1985) was a turning point of his career, It was followed by many successful films like Jeete Hain Shaan Se (1988), Mardon Wali Baat (1988), Ilaaka (1989), Kanoon Apna Apna (198910 etc.
He was nominated for Filmfare award for Best Actor in Sajan (1991) & Khalnayak (1993). He received his first best actor for Vaastav:
The Reality (1999). He was accolade for Mission Kashmir (2001), Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. (2003) & Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006).
He was arrested under TADA & the arms act in April 1993. He was convicted for violation of Arms Acts for possession of illegal weapon in 1993.
He was released in 2016 after serving his sentence. In 2018, his biopic based on his life was released on the name of Sanju.
It was released to positive reviews. Sanju declared as one of the highest-grossers of Indian cinema.
Sanjay Dutt was born in a Punjabi family at Mumbai. His father Sunil Dutt (born Balraj Dutt) was a noted cinema actor and a politician.
In addition, her mother Nargis (born Fatima Rashid) was a very well-known cinema actress.
He has two sisters Priya and Namrata. His mother died in 1981, shortly before his debut film premiere due to cancer.

Her death made him drugg abuse. As a child actor, he appeared in Reshma & Shere with his father.
Personal life:
In 1980s, he had a relationship with his co-star of his first film Tina Munim. After the end of that relationship, he married to actor Richa Sharma in 1987. They have a daughter, Trishala Dutt.
Richa Sharma died of a brain tumer in 1996. Her daughter lives in US with her maternal grandparents.
Again, he married to an air-hostess-cum-model Rhea Pillai in February 1998. That relationship ended in divorce in 2008.
Again, he married to Manyata (born Dilnawaz Sheikh). First, they registered in Goa in 2008 & then after two years they got married in a Hindu ceremony. On 21st October, he became a father of twins, a boy & a girl.
Acting Career:
In 1981, he made his debut with box-office super hit film Rocky. Then in 1982, he went on star in Vidhaata, the highest-grossing film with Dilip Kumar, Shammi Kapoor and Sanjeev Kumar.
He also stared in Main Awara Hoon (1983). In 1985, he shot his first film Jaan KI Baazi in two years.
In 1986, Naam was the turning point in his career. It was a major critical and commercial success.
In 80s, he appeared in successful films like Imaandaar, Jeete Hain Shaan Se, Inaam Dus Hazaar, Mardon Wali Baat, Ilaaka, Kanoon Apna Apna, Taaqatwar etc.
His performance in Kabza & J. P. Dutta’s 1989 Hathyar were well received by critics.
However, both films managed only average collections at the box office. During late 80s he stared in many multi-starrers films with Govinda, Mithun, Jackie Shroff, Sunny Deol etc.
During 90s he appeared in Tejaa, Khatarnaak, Zahreelay, Khoon Ka Karz, Yalgaar, Aatish: Feel the Fire etc.
In 90s, he also acted in Sadak, Saajan & Khalnayak. In Sajaan he was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actor Award. In Khalnayak he earned his second best actor award nomination.
As Per Hindu, His films Naam & Sadak got him lot of favourable attention & Saajan established him as the conventional soft actor.
In 1991, Saajan was the highest-grossing film. In addition, Sadak was the sixth highest grosser in the same year. Again, in 1993, Khalnayak became a blockbuster & the second highest.
His first film after 1993 was Daud (1997). It was average at box office. This was followed by Dushman which well financially.
1999, was great year for Dutt. His five films were released during this year and almost were high-grossing films that year.
They were Kartoos, Khoobsurat, Haseena Maan Jayegi, Daag: The Fire & Vaastav: The Reality. For Vaastav he won many awards including his first filmfare award for Best Actor.

His role in Mission Kashmir have him critical acclaim & number of awards and nomination in 2000.
For his performance in the movie, the President of India to Rashtrapati Bhavan invited him.
He continued to play lead roles in Jodi No.1, Pitaah, Kaante & Munna Bhai M. B. B. S. that film gave him several awards.
At the box-office, Munna Bhai achieved a silver Jubilee status. The sequel if Munna Bhai M. B. B. S., Lage Raho Munna Bhai was release in late 2006.
Again, he received a number of awards for this film. He received an award from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his work in the Munna Bhai series.
Later he starred in movies like Dhamaal, Shootout at Lokhandwala, All the Best,Double Dhamaal, PK, Agneepath etc.
In January 2008, 12 films featuring Dutt were listed by Indian film Institute Filmfare among 100 highest grossing movies.
During 2013, in its May edition “100 years of Indian cinema” Filmfare listed 3-filmd of Dutt in its top 20 list.
They were Lage Raho Munna BHai, Khalnayak & Saajan. On 29th June 2018, his biopic Sanju was released. In that he made special appearance. He was shooting with Alia Bhatt for Sadak 2.

Off-screen work:
During 2nd October 2011 to 7th January 2012, he co-hosted 5th-season of Indian reality show Bigg Boss with Salman Khan.
It was alleged that he accepted a delivery of weapons at his house from Abu Salem and co-accused Riyaz Siddiqui.
It was in relation with Bombay blast in 1993. Dutt, however, stated that he took only one Type-56 from the producers of his movie Sanam, for his own family protection.
It was also reported that his father’s political rivalry caused sanjay’s conviction. He was arrested under the provisions of the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) in April 1993.
On 5th of May 1993, Supreme Court of India gave bail to him, however in July 1994 his bail was cancelled & he was re-arrested.
Again, on October 16th of 1995, he was granted bail. Dutt was cleared of the charges relating to the Mumbai blast on 31st July 2007.
However, the TADA court sentenced Dutt to six years’ rigorous imprisonment under Arms act for illegal possession of weapons.

He was released from jail on 25th February 2016 after serving his sentence. On August 2020, Sanjay Dutt was diagnosed with 4th stage lung cancer.
