Can you share the story behind the founding of Fixderma and FCL Skincare? What motivated you to start these ventures?

Shaily Mehrotra: The skincare market had earlier two genres of products: clinical products and cosmetic care. So the products available in the market either took care of the skin issue like irritation, acne, dark spots, etc. or made your skin better, brighter, hydrated, etc.

There was nothing with clinical and therapeutic benefits. This lack was the inspiration and insight behind the launch of Fixderma, a dermaceutic brand that specializes in dermatologist-approved formulations for problem-free and healthy skin.

Fixderma has established itself as a prominent player in the dermatology and skincare industry. What challenges did you face in scaling the business, and how did you overcome them?

Shaily Mehrotra: As Fixderma grew, we faced numerous challenges like complex regulations, fierce competitors, and maintaining supply. To overcome such hurdles, we implemented better operational practices and fostered new ideas.

We formed a dedicated team to tackle regulatory complexities effectively. We also prioritized educating the public about our products. While also spending a good amount of money in advertising, we made sure to provide clear information to our customers through partnering with reliable people and understanding the industry landscape.

In a dynamic field like Skincare and Beauty, it becomes crucial to keep yourself updated to the latest trends as well as to  know which trend is really worth investing your focus on.

How does Fixderma innovate in skincare products, and what sets your brand apart in the competitive market?

Shaily Mehrotra: As the name Fixderma suggests, the brand’s goal is to fix ‘derm’ (skin). It has a different portfolio of products for online and OTC, and a separate dermat portfolio. We constantly try to innovate our product lines by understanding the pain points of the consumers.

We have recently introduced our after- sun care range that provides a solution against sunburn and tan caused by UV rays. What sets our brand apart is the maintained trust of more than 8000 dermatologists in the country.

FCL Skincare focuses on scientific formulations. What inspired the decision to prioritize these ingredients, and how do you ensure the quality and efficacy of your products?

Shaily Mehrotra: At FCL, we are more than just a dermaceutical brand. With a deep understanding of dermatology and a commitment to scientific excellence, we craft a range of premium skincare solutions that are designed to transform your skin from within.

We understand the unique challenges that individuals face when it comes to skin concerns, and that’s why our team of expert dermatologists meticulously develop products that address a wide range of dermatological issues.

All FCL products are free of synthetic dyes, fragrances, mineral oil, petrolatum, lanolin, and phthalates, and pairs health, nature, and science to create each of our products, which offers you an effective solution for the health of your skin.

Sustainability is becoming increasingly important in the beauty industry. How does Fixderma and FCL Skincare approach sustainability in terms of product development, packaging, and business practices?

Shaily Mehrotra: Environment responsibility is part of the core values instilled at Fixderma and FCL Skincare. We make sure all our products are eco-friendly, with natural materials sourced from sustainable suppliers. The packaging, too, is reusable and would not go to waste, hence reducing our carbon footprint.

We believe that even small reductions in product size and weight can add up to significant reductions in carbon emissions when implemented on a large scale.

As a female entrepreneur, what advice would you give to other women looking to start their own businesses, particularly in the healthcare and beauty sectors?

Shaily Mehrotra: As a female entrepreneur in the respective sector my advice would be focusing on solving real problems with innovative solutions. Build a strong and mental support with peers, embrace your unique perspective and strengths, using them to differentiate your brand.   

Prioritize compliance and quality in your products or services Stay resilient through challenges, and continually educate yourself on industry trends. Finally, believe in yourself and your vision—confidence is key to overcoming obstacles and achieving success.
