October 23, 2022: Shiv Nadar of HCL tops EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2022; donated Rs 3 crore per day.

Wipro’s Azim Premji slipped to second position with an annual donation of Rs 484 crore. RIL chief Mukesh Ambani and his family donated Rs 411 crore, taking third place on the list, prepared by the research firm Hurun and the Edelgive Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Edelweiss group.

The list has been published for the ninth consecutive year. HCL founder Shiv Nadar topped the Edelgive Hurun India 2022 philanthropy list, becoming India’s “Most Generous Person” with an annual donation of Rs 1,161 crore in FY 2022.

Azim Premji, 77, from Wipro, moved into second place with an annual donation of Rs 484 million. He ruled the ranking at the top for the last two years in a row. RIL chief Mukesh Ambani and his family donated Rs 411 crore, taking third place on the list, prepared by the research firm Hurun and the Edelgive Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Edelweiss group. Kumar Mangalam Birla and his family, who donated Rs 242 million, came in fourth place. With a combined contribution of Rs 426 crore to the Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc), Susmita, Subroto, Radha and NS Parthasarathy are ranked fifth.

Gautam Adani and his family, who donated Rs 190 crore, are ranked seventh in the EdelGive Hurun India 2022 Philanthropic List, while Anil Agarwal and his family, with a donation of Rs 165 crore, They rank eighth.

Nandan Nilekani, co-founder of Infosys, came in at 9th place with a donation of Rs 159 crore. AM Naik, Group Executive Chairman of Larsen & Toubro, is in 10th place with a donation of Rs 142 crore in FY22.

According to the ‘EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2022’ published on Thursday, the donations of the richest people in India (who donated more than Rs 5 crore) were measured by the value of their April 1 cash or cash equivalents. from 2021 to March 31, 2022.

Hurun Research finds 15 people in India, who made an annual donation of more than Rs 100 million, 20 more than Rs 50 million and 43 more than Rs 20 million. The median age of the philanthropists on the list is 69, up two years from last year.

“Over the past 5 years, the number of donors who have donated more than Rs 100 crore has increased from 2 to 15, and more than Rs 50 crore has increased from 5 to 20.

Considering the wealth creation potential from India and assuming billionaires continue to philanthropy, I expect these numbers to at least double in the next 5 years,” said Anas Rahman Junaid, MD and Principal Investigator at Hurun India.

“The cohort of senior and young tech entrepreneurs has the potential to play a crucial role in meeting the country’s social sector funding requirements.

In fact, Nikhil Kamath, 36, is the youngest philanthropist on the list. A total of six female philanthropists are listed.

With a donation of Rs 120 million, Rohini Nilekani, 63, is the most generous female philanthropist on the list. She is followed by Leena Gandhi Tewari and Anu Aga who donated Rs 21 crore and Rs 20 crore respectively.

Ranked as the 12th most generous Indian, Quess Corp Chairman Ajit Isaac debuted on the list with a donation of Rs 105 crore to the Indian Institute of Sciences (IISC), Bengaluru.

Rakesh Gangwal, co-promoter of Indigo Airlines, also debuted in the Edelgive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2022 with a personal donation of Rs 100 crore to the School of Medical Sciences and Technology at IIT, Kanpur.
