This is the interview of Silisti Karuriya, Indian women entrepreneur and an award winning author of the Indian literature. Let’s learn more about her inspirational journey and her advice for our growing community!

About the author:

Silisti Karuriya was born in Sawar Ajmer Rajasthan. Hailing from middle class family, she had completed her basic education in Sawar, Ajmer (Rajasthan).

She had nurtured her writing skills during her school days and after pursuing her schooling, she appeared for pre-medical exams but unfortunately, she couldn’t crack the PMT examination and this created a bad impact on her mental health; hence she opted to fire up all of her writings on fire. 

But it was no end to this future novelist as she holds an interest in painting and creative works too. After completing her B.sc, she went for admission in Post-graduation programs i.e., M.Sc (Bioscience) in Banasthali Vidyapith. 

While pursuing M.Sc, she catapulted to the first rank holders category and also won several prizes in her academicals stint.

Silisti Karuriya had participated in ‘JANUS-2016’ Quiz competition and won the FIRST POSITION, organized by the Faculty of Science and Technology at Banasthali Vidyapith, Rajasthan. 

After admission, she aspired to be an IAS officer, hence she had started to study hard for civil services. But the dream of becoming an IAS officer buckled under family pressure. 

Hence, she went for pursuing her Doctorate aka PhD, where she started writing her first Book “Chamde Ka Lutera”, and it was her first step to the ladder of success. 

Her marvellous success for this masterpiece was not only shocking for her family but it was way more motivating to many other youngsters and budding writers to write.

“Chamde Ka Lutera” novel has been nominated for a web series “Story to Screen 2020”. Apart from writing novel, she has penned many short stories among which one story “The Broken ship” got selected in the Golden book of world records. 

Apart from writing novel, she holds a deep fascination towards painting and art depictions too. She has won many remarkable awards in art and paintings.

Chamde Ka Lutera fame, her work was adjudged as the Top 100 Debut Novel, which has also earned critical acclaim across the country. 

Her thoughtful romantic creation was nominated for Best Fiction Award in ICMDR 2020, Mumbai along with Konark Lit Fest in 2019. The serene storyteller, Ms. Karuriya has a penchant for painting and creative works, which she admits as a soul satisfying moment for her.

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

Silisti Karuriya: When I was 14 years old. My dad used to bring storybooks for me. I was inspired from the bottom of my heart. 

When I am alone then I feel very lonely so my soul inspired to write something. Then I started to write fiction stories as my hobby. I expressed my joy, pain from the bottom of my heart.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?

Silisti Karuriya: When I joined PhD, I decided to write a book, because at the time I was preparing for the IAS exam. Many such issues had popped up into to my mind which inspired me to write a book and become an author.

How many books have you written?

Silisti Karuriya: I have written one book and a short story to date. Short Story would be launched soon on Kindle. Currently, I am working on my third book.

4-What is your work schedule like when you’re writing?

Silisti Karuriya: My writing has never been scheduled, it just happens as per my mood, besides being PhD research scholar, my time schedule is very hectic. But mostly I used to write in the evening or late at night.

How long does it take you to write a book?

Silisti Karuriya: It depends upon the genre of the book. For the fiction book, which I wrote, ‘Chamde Ka Lutera’, I took around 05 months.

For the short storybook, ‘THE BROKEN SHIP’, as it is an automatic writing style and automatic writing comes under connection to your inner soul, so, I have taken almost 7 months.

When did you write your first book?

Silisti Karuriya: I started writing my first book, “Chamde Ka Lutera” in JULY 2018. I had been working on it and completed it in Jan 2018. Now it’s available for readers since 29 April 2019, available at www.amazon.in, Kindle and also in book shops.

How do books get published?

Silisti Karuriya: Books get published in two ways. The first is self publishing and the other one is Traditional publishing. In self publishing, we have to get our book published on our own, where we have to spend our own money. 

Whereas in Traditional publishing you don’t have to spend any money, your storyline should be strong.

What is the most difficult part about writing for you?

Silisti Karuriya: I barely face any difficulties while writing anything. I can write on any subject and I like to write something different. 

But portrayal of your thought in a well explained manner so that your readers find it easy to grab the concept of what you actually want to say.

What advice would you give new writers?

Silisti Karuriya: My advice to my new writers- the work in which you are interested and can inspire everyone and only that can give you happiness.
