When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
Somya Tyagi: It was never planned to be a writer. I have been writing since I was in 12th standard and it’s been four years now. It was just a sudden thing which ever happened to me.
I was just sitting in the class and I remember that it was a free lecture so me and my friends decided to write something so I wrote 5 to 6 shayaris based on my life incident, some of them were really good so my friends and family members appreciate me a lot.
My elder brother Himanshu and my grandfather Dr. Khajan Singh Tyagi (who has recently launched his first solo book, PATJHAD KA PATTA) they both are writers and they guide me about my writing throughout this journey.
So after 12th I just continued my writing and I remember in June 2020 I got my write ups published in the book ASCENT INKS as a co author. So that was the starting point of my journey as a writer.
When did you first consider yourself a writer?
Somya Tyagi: I start considering myself as a writer when I decided to start my writing page on Instagram and the name of my page is @dil_ki_bateen.
I started it on 20th Feb 2020 and after some months I got the opportunity to be a published writer in the book named ASCENT INKS and that was the happiest moment of my life because finally I got published in a book. So that was the moment when I started considering myself as a published writer.
How many books have you written?
Somya Tyagi: As for now “Living my Dreams” is the only solo book of mine but I am planning for the next book.
I had participated in more than 75+ anthologies and I am the compiler of 41 anthologies beside this my writers got published in a magazine also.
What is your work schedule like when you’re writing?
Somya Tyagi: I never planned to write something it just depends on my mood whenever I felt that I have to pen down my thoughts, my inner feelings so I just take out my pen and diary and I pen down in form of quotes and poems.
As I am a student so beside my studies I am working as the HR Manager in The Opus Coliseum Publication and I am also working as a magazine head in Tridesta Magazine and I am also working in an affiliate market.
So yaa I have to manage my time as per my work schedule but whenever I feel lonely or hollow from inside I just take out my notebook and my Pen and I write my thoughts and feelings in the form of beautiful poems and shayaris.
How long does it take you to write a book?
Somya Tyagi: It depends on the writer, many writers take a year or a month to write because they are very specific about their write ups but in my case I started writing poems in July, 2020 before that I only wrote quotes so from that I continuously wrote poems and then I published my solo book which contains 60 poems of mine and it got published in April 2021.
When did you write your first book?
Somya Tyagi: My first book got published in April 2021 by Notion Press. I wasn’t able to promote my book on different platforms but yes I am planning many different things for my next upcoming book.
How do books get published?
Somya Tyagi: Well it’s a big process and you have two options for your book first one is self publishing and the second one is traditional method. You can choose according to your budget and convenience.
In self publishing you have to do all the procedures by yourself from manuscript to book cover like formatting, editing, proofreading, interior designing and all the other stuff and whenever you feel that you are done with your process and you want to publish yourself then just go for it and publish your book.
And when you opt for the traditional method, it will take a lot of cooperation and patience and off course money also because all those things will be done by the publication itself.
What is the most difficult part about writing for you?
Somya Tyagi: Sometimes writers feel blocked by mind, means you want to write your feelings, your emotions but you can’t so that was the most difficult moment for any writer.
Sometimes it is very difficult for a writer to express their feelings in the form of poem or Shayari because whenever your readers want you to write on a specific topic then your main task is to convey your message to your writers via writing but you can’t except that what you are writing your readers grab the same meaning of your writing.
What advice would you give new writers?
Somya Tyagi: I just want to say that each and every person has one writer inside them so you don’t need to wait for the right time or right moment ,you just go and pen down your thoughts, your feelings, your emotions.
Whenever you feel lonely or just want to write something just go for it and trust me it was the most relief moment for any writer and my Mool Mantra for my writings is this
“Kuch Baatein Jo Juban Na Keh Paye, Bas Alfaaz Mil Ke Shayari Mein Utar Jaaye.”
