In an exclusive interview, Sonal Jindal, the visionary Founder and Promoter of Medusa Group (India), shares her journey of transforming a passion for storytelling into a platform that champions Indian creativity and women-led entrepreneurship.
From launching Medusa in 2014 as a space for emerging designers to now leading showcases at global events like London Fashion Week, Jindal reflects on the evolution of the luxury fashion landscape in India, the rise of women entrepreneurs, and the delicate dance between creativity and commerce.
With unwavering commitment to purpose-driven leadership, she continues to redefine what it means to build with intent in the world of fashion.
As a woman entrepreneur in the luxury space, what inspired your journey, and how did Medusa come into being?
Sonal Jindal: My journey began with a deep passion for storytelling and brand building. I’ve always believed that fashion is more than just clothing, it’s a narrative of culture, craftsmanship, and identity.
In 2014, I founded Medusa as a platform to give independent designers and women-led brands both visibility and a voice.
Over time, Medusa evolved from a B2C exhibition platform into a global bridge connecting Indian design, artisanship, and entrepreneurship to international runways like London Fashion Week. The inspiration has always been to create ecosystems where creativity and commerce can thrive together.
You’ve been actively empowering women-led brands. What changes have you seen in this space over the years?
Sonal Jindal: When I started, many women-led brands were homegrown ventures with limited opportunities to showcase their work. Today, I see a significant shift where women entrepreneurs are more confident, tech-savvy, and globally aware.
They are not only building sustainable businesses but also shaping consumer trends in luxury and lifestyle.
What excites me most is that women no longer treat entrepreneurship as a secondary pursuit. They’re taking center stage, building legacy businesses, and claiming their rightful place in leadership.
What are some leadership lessons you’ve learned while building a fashion-forward business like Medusa?
Sonal Jindal: One of the biggest lessons has been resilience. Fashion is fast-moving and constantly evolving; you must be able to adapt quickly. Another key lesson is the power of collaboration over competition.
Medusa was built on partnerships with designers, artisans, students, and institutions and I’ve learned that collective growth creates a stronger, more lasting impact than working in silos.
Finally, leadership in fashion means balancing empathy with decisiveness. You’re engaging with creative minds, businesses, and communities so you must lead with a clear vision, but also listen deeply.
How do you balance your creative instincts with the business demands of the fashion industry?
Sonal Jindal: To me, creativity and business are not opposing forces they complement and fuel each other. My creative instincts help me discover emerging talent, craft compelling narratives, and conceptualize platforms like SPARC to MUT.
At the same time, my business acumen ensures that these ideas are sustainable, scalable, and revenue-generating. I’ve always viewed Medusa as a fusion of artistry and entrepreneurship, and that balance has guided every major decision.
What’s your advice for young women entering the fashion and luxury entrepreneurship world today?
Sonal Jindal: Dream boldly, but build strategically. While the fashion and luxury world may appear glamorous, behind the scenes it demands discipline, financial foresight, and grit. Stay true to your voice authenticity always stands out.
Be open to mentorship, collaboration, and continuous learning. And most importantly, don’t wait for external validation. Create your own path, own your story, and remember: entrepreneurship isn’t just about selling products it’s about creating meaningful impact.
