Sonia Agarwal Bajaj, a distinguished educationist, has dedicated her life to the pursuit of knowledge and the betterment of the education system. With a profound passion for nurturing young minds and shaping the future of our society, she has made significant contributions in the field of education.

Her innovative approaches and unwavering commitment to excellence have earned her a reputation as a trailblazer in the education sector. In this interview, we delve into her insights, experiences, and vision for the future of education.

Could you please share your background and journey in the field of education? What motivated you to become an educationist?

Sonia Agarwal Bajaj: Given the powerful impact education has had on my life, I have always tried to associate with organisations and projects that helped more students get access to quality education.

After relocating to Agra, I recognized that the gap in education quality between a metro and tier II city was large. It became my mission to bridge this gap and provide quality education at affordable prices in tier II cities.

Given how transformative and important the first six years of a child are, the focus on early education came intuitively and most promising.

Throughout your career, you may have faced challenges in education. Can you share a particularly challenging situation you’ve encountered and how you worked to overcome it?

Sonia Agarwal Bajaj: Having lived across the world and with access to the finest education, it was difficult to come to terms with the state of affairs in some of the preschools in tier II cities were in. There were sizable gaps across infrastructure, faculty training, curriculum, implementation methods and even mindset.

We have worked hard to innovate on all these fronts to become one of the top 3 preschools in the entire country today. I remember when we first launched the parent-toddler program for 10 months+ children, we had to host family counselling sessions and demo sessions for parents and grandparents to get comfortable with the concept. Today, it is one of our most popular programs in the city.

What advice would you give to parents and caregivers to support their children’s education effectively, both inside and outside the classroom?

Sonia Agarwal Bajaj: Learning is a continuous process. It starts before they enrol in school and needs to continue outside school hours. Parents and caregivers must envision schools as a learning powerhouse where children get access to rich, facilitated, learning opportunities. These learning areas need to be further explored outside school via play, discussions and parental interactions.

For us to do so, it would be important to be vigilant about any communication around learning goals that will help us stir up a conversation or facilitate out-of-school activities to further their learning. While the primary responsibility of achieving those learning goals is for the schools, parents play a key role in integrating this learning at home.

Lifelong learning is a key concept in education. How do you personally continue to learn and grow as an educator?

Sonia Agarwal Bajaj: For us as educators to innovate and reimagine early education and shape young minds, we need to be constantly exploring and learning. I read extensively in the space of early education, art, technology and child psychology.

This allows me to stay connected to the best methods and philosophies in the space of education. I also monitor educational toys and books closely to spark new inspiration and celebrate creativity.

Sonia Agarwal Bajaj’s remarkable journey as an educationist is an inspiring testament to the transformative power of education. Her visionary ideas, dedication, and tireless efforts to improve educational opportunities for students have left an indelible mark on the education landscape.

Through this interview, we have gained a glimpse into the mind of a true education pioneer who continues to inspire others to seek innovative solutions and nurture the potential of the next generation.

As we conclude this conversation, it becomes evident that Sonia Agarwal Bajaj’s influence will continue to shape the future of education for years to come, leaving an enduring legacy of knowledge, empowerment, and enlightenment.
