Narendra Modi is the current Prime Minister of India, and he is also the first prime minister to be born after India’s independence from British rule.

He has had a long and successful political career, starting out as a tea-seller and working his way up to become the chief minister of Gujarat. In this success story, we will take a look at Narendra Modi’s life and how he became one of the most powerful leaders in India today.

Early Life and Childhood

Narendra Modi was born on September 17, 1950, in the small town of Vadnagar in the Indian state of Gujarat. His father, Damodardas Modi, was a street merchant who sold tea, and his mother, Hiraben, was a homemaker.

When he returned home, he finished high school and then attended college for a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science.

It was during his time at college that he became involved with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a right-wing Hindu nationalist organization.


The Journey

Narendra Modi began his political career as a cadre of  the RSS and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1987.

He was appointed as the General Secretary of the BJP’s Gujarat unit in 1988. In 2001, Narendra Modi was appointed the Chief Minister of Gujarat, a position he held until 2014.

He held this position for 12 years, during which time he oversaw significant economic growth in the state.

During his tenure as Chief Minister, Narendra Modi was accused of being complicit in the 2002 Gujarat riots.

In September 2013, Narendra Modi was announced as the Prime Ministerial candidate for the BJP for the upcoming 2014 general elections.

Narendra Modi led the BJP to a victory in the 2014 general elections, after which he was sworn in as Prime Minister of India on 26 May 2014. He is India’s first Prime Minister born after Independence.
