An interview with Dipankar Mukherjee, Co-founder of Studio Blo, a full-stack Generative AI Content Studio help brands, agencies, filmmakers, architects, fashion labels, and musicians
In this exclusive interview, Dipankar Mukherjee, co-founder of Studio Blo, discusses the transformative power of AI in the world of creative content.
From redefining how brands, filmmakers, and designers approach their work to unlocking new creative possibilities, Mukherjee shares his vision for the future of content creation.
As a leader in the AI-driven creative space, Studio Blo is making waves in industries ranging from fashion to filmmaking.
How does Studio Blo balance AI-driven production with traditional filmmaking techniques to create photorealistic content?
Dipankar Mukherjee: We believe that AI simply replaces the camera, not the people behind it. Which is why our process involves bringing in writers, cinematographers, directors, production designers, art directors to control how AI visualises the shot.
Right from articulating where the scene is being shot, to choosing the right camera and lens, experimenting with camera blocking, to even doing tests with character look, costume, and more. With AI, we do everything that goes into making a film using traditional methods.
The only difference is that AI enables us to choose any camera, any lens, any location, any period, any time of day to shoot – irrespective of the budget.
Our proprietary tool, MEDUSA helps create synth versions of faces, bodies and voices. We pay special attention to skin tones, eyes and limbs.
The popular image generation platforms are notoriously generalist (if not racist) when it comes to prompting for Indian or other non-white ethnicities.
Getting the right number of fingers have also been a challenge for most large platforms. These are all addressed by Medusa.
What are the unique challenges that your proprietary AI tools solve in content creation?
Dipankar Mukherjee: There are industry-specific challenges that we solve. For instance, for fashion brands we are helping them infinitely scale their content for catalog, e-commerce, and editorial. Each SKU and its color variants can have a multiple static and video shots.
Synth Fashion Models of any ethnicity and body shape can pose in them. Shoots can happen in any location. There is no need to be restricted to a studio for doing e-commerce shoots.
On the other hand, for sports and for brands endorsed by athletes, our proprietary tool MEDUSA is able to provide precise pose control.
For instance, AI doesn’t understand the difference between a square cut and a cover drive. We are able to use MEDUSA to control these shots and deliver accurate results.
How does your collaboration with filmmakers, screenwriters, and cinematographers across different countries enhance the quality of your productions?
Dipankar Mukherjee: Every artist comes with a unique social, cultural and political context. When we collaborate with artists from a different geography, our work gets a unique texture.
Our recent short film, Pangaea, that is in competition at various film festivals, had a unique medieval Japanese setting. Our collaborations with filmmakers from around the world help us create a cinematic language that is unique and that’s visible in films like Pangaea.
Can you elaborate on your system for trackable and verifiable AI clones, and how it benefits celebrities and talent management?
Dipankar Mukherjee: Unregulated, unauthorised AI Cloning is potentially going to destroy careers and do a lot of damage to IP Rights. Thus, it is critical to bring about traceability & verifiability at scale to this technology.
The war that is today being waged by celebrities against AI Cloning is justified. But it reminds me of the fight between Napster vs Record Labels & Artists in the pre-streaming era. We believe we are going to be the Spotify of AI.
We will be making an official announcement about our proprietary platform FAIMOUS soon. At the moment, all I can say is that Faimous along with Medusa is going to help actors, fashion models, athletes, influencers, creators, and even politicians, secure their digital identity in the era of AI Clones.
What are the key innovations Studio Blo is introducing to revolutionize the virtual try-on experience for fashion retailers?
Dipankar Mukherjee: We are trying to completely disrupt how the fashion industry creates content & how it engages with its customers.
One of our disruptions is an official, authorised, on-demand army of AI Model Clones, in collaboration with some of the biggest modelling agencies in the world.
Another is how we are trying to completely revolutionise Virtual Try-ons. No more clunky AR interfaces. With our technology, just a quick mirror selfie generates a video of the customer wearing her outfits.
Future releases are to have hyper-personalisation, where a customer gets suggested pairings from social media, and also a lot of big data insights for fashion retailers.
Dipankar Mukherjee’s insights highlight the immense potential of AI to reshape creativity across multiple industries. Studio Blo is at the forefront of this revolution, helping brands and creatives unlock unprecedented possibilities.
As AI continues to evolve, Mukherjee’s innovative approach promises to redefine the landscape of content creation, offering a glimpse into a future where creativity and technology seamlessly intertwine.
