Dr. Mahesh Gupta, A mechanical engineer, is famous for revolutionizing the Indian water purification industry.
Dr. Gupta is the Founder-Chairman of India’s leading water Purifier Company, Kent RO Systems Ltd. He did mechanical engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1975. He received a master’s degree in engineering from the Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP) Dehradun.
Dr. Mahesh Gupta started his career with Indian Oil Limited, one of the most prestigious Indian oils corporation in 1977. In 1988, he said goodbye to his high paying job of oil sector giant.
He stated manufacturing instruments for conservational oil under the brand name “Kent Oil Meter” that is still carrying on successfully in the Indian market.
In 1988, his son, who was living in a posh colony in south Delhi, was suffering from jaundice. Gupta know that jaundice is a waterborne disease; Gupta analyzed and researched all the water purifiers available in the Indian market and dissatisfied.
Dr. Mahesh Gupta decided to make a better quality water purifier. For him making own water purifier was not a difficult task, because he had and engineering background. He imports some components and makes a new one for personal use.
Dr. Mahesh Gupta started his entrepreneurial journey with just Rs. 20,000 from a small room in his house. He had saved Rs. 20,000 from his job with Indian Oil Corporation limited.
He started the company from a scratch in 1998; he launched the first domestic RO water purifier “Kent RO System”. He became confident that is water purifier is good enough to be marketable. This water purifies the water-based upon the process of reverse osmosis purification.
He started with a team of four-member and scratches with R. 1lakh investment. Today Kent RO System Limited has more than 3000 employees, has turnover of 600 crore, and grown a 45% market share in RO mineral.
Today, Kent RO is the most dynamic water purifier company in India and competing with the leading international and national brands.
Today Mahesh Gupta is offering services like the Middle East, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Kenya. Over the year, Dr. Mahesh Gupta has diversified into other products like a water softener, Vegetable Cleaner, air purifiers, Vacuum Cleaner and many more.
He also takes out time to guide young Indian entrepreneurs through guest lectures at many entrepreneurship development programs and MBA institutes. He has also opted to be a mentor under The Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Alumni Association.
