An Interview with Sudarshan Purohit, a dynamic entrepreneur and IIT Madras graduate who has spent the last 17 years building ventures.
Sudarshan Purohit, IIT Madras alumnus, has built ventures in hospitality, nutrition-tech, education, and consumer brands over 17 years. Recognized in Bengaluru for blending innovation, operational excellence, and human well-being focus.
What motivated you to transition across such varied industries like hospitality, nutrition-retech, education, and consumer brands in your entrepreneurial journey?
Sudarshan Purohit: “I’ve never looked at my journey as shifting between different industries. For me, it has always been about solving problems that affect daily life.
The domains may look unrelated — hospitality, nutrition-tech, education and consumer brands — but the intention behind everything is identical: build systems that make life easier, healthier and more meaningful.
Zenify solved a core urban challenge — renting homes without stress. When Ravishing Retreat was built, it came from a personal insight: people don’t just want a hotel, they want memories.
Today, the resort is known for weddings, corporate off-sites and celebrations, and every guest remembers the atmosphere, the food, the activities and the warmth. Hospitality became experiential.
With Hong Sau, the vision evolved further. Hong Sau Resort Sakleshpur brought nature, silence, forests and wellness together with luxury. We realised people need spaces where they can pause and breathe.
And from that philosophy came Hong Sau Bliss — a wellness-led retreat model focused on healing, balance and emotional clarity. Bliss has become a place where guests combine nature, meditation, yoga, clean food and comfort. We are creating a brand that represents nature-led luxury from India.
Two ventures are extremely meaningful to me because they touch families and individuals directly.
My Inborn Talent helps children, parents and teachers understand strengths, learning styles and capabilities using DMIT. I strongly believe that when there is clarity, stress reduces.
We have helped over 5,000 individuals discover their abilities, align education and career, and build confidence. I’ve seen children transform when they realise what they are naturally good at.
My Balance Bite came from a very personal observation: Indian families struggle with long-term health despite eating at home. We all use the same ingredients, but proportions are wrong. MBB creates monthly nutrition kits based on BMI, body type and blood markers.
It is “food as medicine” — practical, personalised and preventive. When families shift to protein-first, fibre-rich, and smart-carb plates, their energy, mood and metabolic health improve drastically. And we’ve seen the results.
So yes, industries have changed. But the core intention has never changed. I build when I see unmet needs. I build where systems can be redesigned.
And I build to make life smoother, healthier, happier — whether that’s renting, travelling, eating or learning. That alignment is what keeps me inspired every day.”
How did your education at IIT Madras prepare you for the challenges and opportunities you’ve encountered in building multiple ventures?
Sudarshan Purohit: “IIT Madras taught me how to think. It was not about academics alone — it was about problem-solving, discipline and humility. On campus, you learn to break down big challenges into small, manageable pieces.
You learn how to stay calm under pressure. You also learn that innovation comes from curiosity, not from fear.
That mindset has helped me across every venture. IIT taught me that no matter how complex a system is, it can be simplified. That thinking has stayed with me through all my companies.”
Zenify scaled impressively to manage over 4,000 flats with a monthly rental book of ₹8 crore. What key strategies drove this rapid growth?
Sudarshan Purohit: “Zenify grew fast because we focused on building systems, not just a business. Every flat was standardised, every process was measured, every interaction was data-driven. Landlords got stability, tenants got professionalism. Trust was built, and growth happened organically.
We never wanted to be the biggest — we wanted to be the most reliable. When systems work, scale becomes a natural outcome. That’s how we managed 4,000+ flats and an ₹8 crore monthly rental book. It wasn’t magic, it was structure.”
Ravishing Retreat Resort is known for its experiential hospitality. What unique elements do you focus on to make guest experiences memorable and distinctive?
Sudarshan Purohit: “At Ravishing Retreat, we don’t sell rooms — we create memories. When people come for weddings, corporate retreats or family celebrations, they remember the laughter, the food, the adventures.
The resort has become a place where people reconnect with each other. We host more than 5,000 guests a month and 40+ corporate events, and every event is personalised.
Hospitality is not about infrastructure. It’s about emotion. When people leave with a smile, that’s success for us.”
Can you share your vision for Hong Sau Bliss pvt.Ltd and how you plan to differentiate it as a luxury global brand?
Sudarshan Purohit: “Hong Sau is very close to my heart because it was never created as just another property — it was created as an experience. My belief is simple: luxury should bring peace, not pressure.
Too many luxury spaces today are loud, crowded and transactional. Hong Sau was built in the opposite direction. Sakleshpur gave us the most priceless foundation — misty hills, ancient forests, birdsong and silence — and we built everything else around that.”
“The reason people fall in love with Hong Sau is that it changes their rhythm. You arrive with a busy mind, and by the second day, your breathing slows down.
You eat better, you sleep deeper, you reconnect with yourself and the people you’re with. Luxury, for us, means the freedom to be unhurried. Everything — from the villas to the jacuzzi suites, from the food to the service — is designed with that intention: rest, reflection, and renewal.”
“Our differentiation is very clear. We are not another resort where you just ‘check in and check out’. Hong Sau is a curated space for balance, nature and emotional well-being. We combine hospitality, wellness, design and nature into one experience.
The architecture is earthy, the food is fresh, the calendar offers thoughtful activities, but nothing is forced. People choose their own pace.”
“My vision is to take Hong Sau beyond geography. I want it to represent India’s nature-led luxury on the global map — a space where travellers from anywhere in the world can come to experience something authentic, rooted and healing.
We will expand thoughtfully and selectively, not aggressively. Quality is more important than scale. We will bring the same soul, the same quiet luxury, the same attention to detail to every location we open.”
“When guests leave Hong Sau, they should feel lighter, clearer, more connected. If we can give people that feeling, then we have achieved success. That, to me, is the future of luxury. And that is the brand we are building.”
As an active angel investor, what key traits do you look for when deciding to support startups in Bengaluru’s ecosystem?
Sudarshan Purohit: “As an angel investor, I look at startups with a very practical lens. At the end of the day, investors are not funding feelings or theories — they are funding outcomes.
What matters is whether the company can make money, deliver returns, and scale responsibly. That is the first filter.
Scale is extremely important. If the market is too small, even a great product cannot grow meaningfully. I always ask: Is this a ₹100 crore opportunity or a ₹1,000 crore opportunity? If the market size is limited, investment interest will also be limited.
Financial discipline matters to me. A business that can deliver a Return on Capital Employed (ROCE) of 30% or more shows strong fundamentals — it means the founders know how to use money efficiently.
Equally important is the team. Ideas evolve, plans pivot, but execution depends on people. I look for founders who are resilient, ethical and data-driven.
And finally, innovation. Not just a one-time idea, but the ability to keep innovating — products, processes, customer experiences. If a company can do that consistently, it becomes difficult to compete with. These are the businesses I like to back”
What advice would you give budding entrepreneurs on combining purpose-driven missions with business success?
Sudarshan Purohit: “My advice is simple: build with purpose, operate with clarity, and don’t chase shortcuts. A business should exist to improve life for someone — it could be through convenience, health, education or joy, but the value must be real.
When founders obsess over the customer, over quality, and over consistent delivery, profit becomes a natural outcome. Unfortunately, today, many entrepreneurs focus on speed, hype and visibility.
But sustainable companies are built on discipline, structure and patience. Entrepreneurship is not glamorous — it is everyday execution, managing people, refining processes, and staying committed even when results are slow.
Purpose is not a marketing line; it is your anchor. If your mission is genuine, it will guide decisions, attract talent, and build trust.
Combine that mission with clear systems, strong teams and financial prudence, and success becomes inevitable. Start small, learn fast, stay humble, and keep your promise to the customer — every single day.”
Sudarshan Purohit’s insights reveal a unified mission: solving daily life challenges through scalable systems enhancing health, ease, and joy. His blueprint inspires entrepreneurs to prioritize purpose, discipline, and customer impact for enduring success.
