The accident that changed Sudha Chandran’s life occurred on June 12, 1981. Sudha was just 16 years old at the time and was returning home from a dance performance in Madras when she fell from a moving train and onto the tracks below. Her right leg was so badly crushed that it had to be amputated above the knee.

Sudha was determined to not let her disability stop her from doing what she loved and within months of the accident, she was back on stage dancing with a prosthetic leg.

She has since gone on to have an incredibly successful career as a dancer and actress, appearing in numerous films and television shows in India and abroad.

Sudha Chandran has fundraised for The Smile Train and has also travelled to India to visit the charity’s patients.
