An Exclusive Interview with Swarna Daga Mimani, Founder & CEO of Second Hugs, a fast emerging Indian platform championing a more mindful way of parenting

Discover Swarna Daga Mimani, Founder & CEO of Second Hugs, India’s rising platform for mindful parenting. In this interview, she shares innovative strategies, sustainable practices, and heartfelt insights to nurture happier families in a fast-paced world. Join her transformative journey.

What personal experiences or observations led you to found Second Hugs, and why did you feel India needed a platform for mindful parenting?

Swarna Daga Mimani: Second Hugs came from a very real, very common observation: homes overflowing with children’s things that were barely used, while other parents were buying the same items new, often under pressure and guilt.

I saw parents constantly trying to “do more” for their kids, buying more, storing more, stressing more. It felt less like parenting and more like consumption.

India especially needed a platform that normalised thoughtful choices. Not everything has to be new to be valuable. Not every parenting decision needs to be driven by comparison or fear. Second Hugs was built to make parenting feel lighter, more intentional, and more human.

Can you explain what “mindful parenting” means in the context of Second Hugs, and how your platform helps parents embrace it?

Swarna Daga Mimani: For us, mindful parenting is about conscious decisions over compulsive ones. It’s choosing what your child truly needs, not what social pressure tells you to buy.

Second Hugs supports this by making it easy to circulate children’s products responsibly and sustainably.

We also create content that reassures parents that thoughtful consumption is not a compromise, it’s a choice rooted in care, sustainability, and practicality. The platform removes friction so parents can focus on raising children, not managing clutter or guilt.

How does Second Hugs address cultural or societal pressures unique to Indian parenting, such as academic stress or joint family dynamics?

Swarna Daga Mimani: Indian parenting often comes with layered expectations from extended families, society, and even neighbours. There’s pressure to “keep up,” to buy more, to prepare earlier, to do everything perfectly.

Second Hugs subtly challenges that narrative. By normalising mindful ownership and sharing, we make it acceptable to say, “This works for us.”

In joint families especially, where storage and decision-making are shared, Second Hugs helps families circulate items instead of accumulating them. It’s a quiet but powerful shift away from excess toward balance.

How do you measure the impact of Second Hugs? Have there been any surprising shifts in user behavior or feedback?

Swarna Daga Mimani: Impact for us isn’t just transactions. It’s repeat users, families coming back to pass items forward, parents participating actively on both sides of the platform, and open conversations around parenting choices.

One surprising shift has been how emotionally invested users are. Parents often share stories about passing on items their children loved and feeling good about where those items go next. That emotional connection tells us we’re building more than a marketplace. We’re building trust.

As a fast-emerging platform, what strategies have driven Second Hugs’ growth in the competitive parenting and edtech space?

Swarna Daga Mimani: Clarity has been our biggest strategy. We are very clear about what we are and what we’re not. We’re not here to push overconsumption or perfection.

We’ve focused on community-driven growth, simple onboarding for parents, transparency in pricing, and content that speaks like a parent, not a brand. Word-of-mouth, founder-led storytelling, and consistent listening to our users have done more for us than flashy marketing ever could.

Looking ahead, what expansions or innovations are planned for Second Hugs, like new content or partnerships?

Swarna Daga Mimani: We’re expanding thoughtfully, not aggressively. You’ll see deeper content around parenting decisions, sustainability, and child development.

On the platform side, we’re working on smoother experiences, better discovery, and partnerships with brands and experts who genuinely align with our values. The goal is to become a trusted ecosystem for parents, not just a place to discover products.

What keeps you motivated as CEO, and how do you practice mindful parenting in your own life?

Swarna Daga Mimani: What keeps me motivated is knowing that Second Hugs reduces stress for parents in small but meaningful ways. If a parent feels a little less overwhelmed today because of us, that matters.

Personally, mindful parenting for me means slowing down, listening more, and not letting external noise dictate decisions. It’s about being present, choosing thoughtfully, and reminding myself that parenting isn’t about doing everything. It’s about doing what truly matters.

Swarna Daga Mimani’s vision at Second Hugs redefines parenting with mindfulness and purpose. Her practical wisdom empowers parents to foster joy, sustainability, and connection. Embrace these gems for a brighter future—thank you, Swarna, for championing mindful families across India!
