Sriharsha Majety
Sriharsha Majety is the co-founder of Swiggy, India’s largest food delivery service. He has a degree in electrical engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani. and an MBA from IIM-Calcutta.
Before starting Swiggy, he worked in an IT company for three years, where he led the technology team that built the company’s first mobile app.
Majety was born in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. His father was a government employee and his mother was a homemaker.
He has two older brothers. Majety’s family is from the Telugu-speaking community, which is one of the largest ethnic groups in India.
Majety’s interest in technology began at an early age. When he was in fifth grade, he built a computer from scratch with his father’s help.
In high school, he was the captain of the school’s robotics team. He went on to study electrical engineering at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, one of India’s premier engineering schools.
After graduation, Majety worked at India’s largest e-commerce company. He was part of the team that built the first mobile app. He left his job to pursue an MBA at IIM-Calcutta.
Majety co-founded Swiggy with Nandan Reddy and Rahul Jain. The company started as a food delivery service for restaurants in Bangalore.
Majety attributes much of Swiggy’s success to its focus on technology and data. “We’ve always been a very technology and data-driven company,” he says. “We use data to make decisions, whether it’s about which restaurant to partner with or where to open up next.”
In 2019, Swiggy was ranked #12 on the Forbes World’s Most Innovative Companies list. The company has been profitable since 2018 and is valued at over $15 billion.
Looking ahead, Majety is confident that Swiggy will continue to grow. “I think we have a very strong business model,” he says. “We are well-positioned to capture a large share of the food delivery market in India.”
Nandan Reddy
a BITS Pilani alumnus, Nandan Reddy was born in Hyderabad, India. Reddy grew up in a family of entrepreneurs. His grandfather founded a successful construction company and his father started an import-export business.
Reddy’s interest in business began at an early age. When he was in fifth grade, he started a small business selling stationery products. In high school, he interned at his father’s company.
Reddy went on to study computer science at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras). After graduation, he worked as a software engineer at Infosys, one of India’s largest IT services companies.
He left Infosys in 2009 to pursue an MBA. Before starting Swiggy, Nandan Reddy co-founded Bundl with Sriharsha.
Rahul Jain
Born in Jaipur, India. Jain’s parents are both doctors. His father is a pediatrician and his mother is an ophthalmologist. Jain has two older sisters.
Jain’s interest in technology began at an early age. When he was in fifth grade, he built a computer from scratch with his father’s help.
In high school, he was the captain of the school’s robotics team. He went on to study electrical engineering at IIT Madras, one of India’s premier engineering schools.
After graduation, Jain worked as a software engineer at Microsoft in Redmond, Washington. He left Microsoft to pursue an MBA.
Jain co-founded Swiggy with Majety and Reddy. The company started as a food delivery service for restaurants in Bangalore.
Swiggy’s technology platform has been integral to its success. The company has built a sophisticated logistics system that enables it to deliver food quickly and efficiently.
Swiggy also uses data to match customers with the right restaurants and to optimize its delivery routes.
Today, Swiggy is present in over 500 cities across India and has a fleet of over 100,000 delivery partners. The company has raised over $800 million from investors such as Naspers, DST Global, and Meituan-Dianping.
