August 14, 2020 Gandhinagar: In a bid to reduce industrial accidents and to ensure the safety of workers, the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) is set to launch a special month-long safety campaign.
The Safety Month will be observed from August 17 to September 15 during which DISH will undertake inspections at industrial units, conduct mock drills, and also hold programs to raise awareness regarding safety of workers.
Officials from the Directorate of Labour will also be a part of the Safety Month programs.
“Most industrial accidents can be avoided if the mandated safety measures are followed.
The Safety Month is aimed at reducing industrial accidents in the state by ensuring compliance with safety norms.
The number of industrial accidents has gone down in the last couple of years due to several measures undertaken by the government and greater awareness among industries and workers, but we want to bring down the number further and hence we are launching this special campaign,” said Vipul Mittra, additional chief secretary, Labour, and Employment department.
The DISH functions under Labour and the Employment department.

will also be reviewed during the campaign, and erring establishments will be penalized as per prevailing rules for non-compliance”.
