Interview with Vick Rana, Chairman, and CEO at Red Ridge Global Limited
Mr. Vick Rana, Promoter of Stone Sapphire India Pvt. Ltd flagship of the toy and stationery children brand Skoodle, got candid about his ideas, journey, vision, and opportunities for the brand.
From Vadodara to Shanghai a business dream turned into reality
Vick’s journey began with taking risks by moving to Shanghai with mere 600 dollars to build something that is now a half-a-billion revenue-earning business.
His determination led the company to build a threshold in multiple leading countries like Shanghai, Hong Kong, India, Singapore, Thailand, the US, Dubai and Canada.
Every step is a learning and growing team ride for Vick, with manpower of over 500+ people the company envisions growing more and beyond.
Please tell us a little about your entrepreneurial journey
Vick Rana: Growing up, I always had a vision to do something more, go beyond the horizons and build something huge.
I was highly inspired by my father and the entrepreneurial vision of his kept me going. The epidote to taking risks and creating a new phenomenon began when I moved to Shanghai with only 600 dollars to build something new and raw.
A few unconventional setbacks and adjustments later, I took the 600 dollar small business to a half a billion dollar company in 25 years with a threshold for multiple leading countries around the world like Shanghai, Hong Kong, India, Singapore, Thailand, the US and Canada.
I have always had a soft corner for my homeland, India, and believe in the coming 10 years the country going to become a giant of manufacturing and face head on with China.
Kindly brief us about your company, its specialization, and the services that it offers
Vick Rana: Red Ridge Global ($ 500Mn) is one of the largest OEM suppliers of Art & Craft products, with over 50 different licensed properties & state-of-the-art Production & Distribution.
Already reigning China’s manufacturing market, R R Global’s Vision INDIA started in 2005-06 with a
100% export-oriented manufacturing unit in Vadodara.
This facility serviced major retailers in the North American market, viz. Michaels, K-Mart, Wal-Mart, Dollar General to name a few.
In 2018, we decided to venture into the distribution market of India, bringing ‘SSIPL to be the
formidable supply chain entity and marketing Children’s Art & Craft Kits under its own brand,
Skoodle.
This was further strengthened by bringing children’s stationery and acquiring world-
renowned licenses like Playdoh, My Little Pony, Playskool, and Transformers as an exclusive
India Licensee.
Today I aim to not only set up their own Made in India benchmark brand, but also invite and encourage Global Toy manufacturers to set up a manufacturing base and market them through SSIPL‘s robust distribution network in India.
What is your biggest USP?
Vick Rana: We started with expertise I got from leading countries abroad. The production capacity here was very limited so we wanted to do something large on a large scale.
We built this capacity that would surface our whole Indian consumer, and we made our quality exceed the expectations, every kid playing with the product is 100% safe, every parent that buys the product understands the piece of mind that it is built straight at the heart factory built with highest quality standards and there’s no compromise in our products in terms of design and production. The proximity is so much better than what we see in India. That is one of our biggest USPs.
What was your mission and vision for Red Ridge Global in 2023?
Vick Rana: Red Ridge Global announced its UAE distribution, business operations and manufacturing plans by strengthening its presence in the Dubai market.
Through this expansion, we aim to increase Red Ridge Global’s penetration into markets across and beyond Asia.
There is strong customer demand in Dubai for products that boast high standards of quality. Our company’s unique and distinctive concept will be well received by customers there and we are confident that our brand will be a successful addition to Dubai’s retail experience.
What are your and company’s goals and how do you plan to build it together?
Vick Rana: I have always believed it’s a team effort and our combined goal is to build and grow together as brand partners.
In the upcoming years, it is our aim to stand out in the market and continue to transform the ever- growing world of fun, learning and play through our vast product line.
If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?
Vick Rana: Would love to encourage my Indian manufacturers who have been playing with small ideas to step up their game and go beyond the horizons and think big to increase the capacity as there is a high ask in demand.
Yes they are but they need to start thinking outside the box and start increasing the capacity of the manufacturing due to increased demand. Go beyond your expectations and look at the brighter side, there’s so much room to grow.
