Interview with Vivek K Singh, Co-founder and CEO of Careerera
Mr. Vivek K Singh with his diligence, hard work, focus, and go-getter attitude has risen to become one of the prominent global edtech founders, with his online education brand “Careerera”.
Vivek led the company since its inception by providing strategic counsel and advice for the escalation of the company.
His understanding of the business facilitated the growth of the company, talent, and partnerships. He also plays a huge role in developing a strong backbone of processes and systems for the company’s next level of expansion.
Tell us a little about yourself
Vivek K Singh: I was born and brought up in Darbhanga and did my schooling from there. I completed my graduation in Management from Bangalore University and later on pursued MBA from IIPM Delhi.
Please tell us a little about your entrepreneurial journey.
Vivek K Singh: Prior to starting Careerera, I worked as a career counselor in the community. My interest has always been mentoring students for a better future.
I believe that upskilling programmes should be implemented in order to produce industry-ready employees.
Students must be educated in a way that will enable them to ascend the global corporate ladder. As a result of this in the year 2009, I entered the realm of online education.
Kindly brief us about your company, its specialization, and the services that it offers. What’s your company’s goals?
Vivek K Singh: Careerera strives to provide a well-rounded quality education and training that not only increases practical competence but also restructures abilities that enables an individual to advance in their field.
We set the standard for focused, efficient, and successful training. Employers benefit from our regular learning-centric initiatives because they develop practical knowledge and skills, which leads to increased production.
Our faculty has decades of experience in the industry, and we believe in using transparent approaches to produce the best programmes and practises.
What is your biggest USP
Vivek K Singh: Our claim to fame is that we cater to the demands of learners of all ages, from children learning abacus to working professionals pursuing a PGP in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning.
The exceptional ingenuity, brilliance and intelligence of our team made Careerera what it is today. Our passion to serve the society in the global market made us rise and shine.
We provide live instructor-led classes and we make sure that our students get more interaction from practical real world experience, not just theoretical.
What made you choose this type of business?
Vivek K Singh: In this competitive world, students are looking for jobs, not titles or expertise. Employers are in the same boat.
There’s a lot more to teaching than that. It is essential for instructors to have training in order to have excellent class management skills.
Since my focus has always been on mentoring students making better career choices, I decided to start my own edtech.
I made sure that my edtech offers a diverse selection of courses, majors, and extracurricular activities to make freshers and professionals industry-ready.
What was your mission and vision at the outset?
Vivek K Singh: Our Mission: To provide high-quality, value-based education.
To develop a differentiated education paradigm, one that is committed to improving job possibilities for all professionals.
To serve the entire community by utilizing the most innovative technologies and concepts to constantly deliver high-quality results.
Our Vision: We are concentrating on developing a differentiated education approach that is dedicated to improving job opportunities for all professionals.
We seek to provide students and working professionals with a world-class learning experience.
Our goal is to provide a learning atmosphere that promotes not only the acquisition of knowledge but also the overall development of a person’s personality, confidence, work ethics, and professionalism.
What is your Leadership Mantra
Vivek K Singh: I believe that being flexible and adaptable can help us embrace challenges better. It aids in finding diverse and unexpected solutions to challenges and issues at the workplace. This mantra turns every crisis to a new opportunity and makes me a better leader.
What was the inspiration behind turning an entrepreneur
Vivek K Singh: I have always wanted to become a businessman since my teenage years. Being the eldest son in the family, it was not easy for me to risk my parent’s hard-earned money to start a business.
There were many unsaid responsibilities over me. However, my passion gave me the courage to start my own venture in 2009. My emphasis was never on gaining profits, but on providing quality services across the globe.
What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them?
Vivek K Singh: What we define as failure is quite subjective. I wouldn’t really call them failures because failure is part of the process. “The secret of life is to fall seven times and to get up eight times.”
Key things to consider before starting a Business
Vivek K Singh: Work with your passion – Passion is the driving force for all of us, if we incorporate our passion into our business it may lead to a rewarding outcome. But you really need to be consistent and hardworking to achieve the same.
Uniqueness – consider offering something unique to the audience that no other business does. Work on setting yourself apart from the others, it would help you articulate the value of your business.
Organized business structure – whether you are working alone or with partners, always design an organized business structure.
It will help you determine your business’ leadership hierarchy and flow of information, and make sure that all the activities are directed to meet your business goals.
Market Research – do some research on your competitors, audience and stakeholders. Once you discover these, you can narrow down your focus to your geographic range. Market research is very important to kick start any business.
What are some of the biggest mistakes you’ve made?
Vivek K Singh: Of Course there are quite a few – big and small. When you venture into a business there are miscalculations and lapses that are inevitable. But having said that I believe a mistake is a success in progress. So no regrets there.
If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?
Vivek K Singh: No one is a born perfectionist, all of us learn by making mistakes. In fact, mistakes could be excellent learning opportunities if we positively accept constructive criticism and feedback.
Oftentimes, learning from mistakes is often key to success. Wrong decisions help us improve our skills and allow us to grow in multiple ways.
The first step towards achieving growth is admitting when you have done wrong. Never try to push it aside, deny it, or cover it up as it will only make things worse.
One’s quality of being able to admit mistakes is the key for helping its business to move forward and grow by leaps and bounds.
Your success tips for young and aspiring entrepreneurs
Vivek K Singh: I would like to say that in order to succeed in any domain, one needs to be patient and consistent. No one is born as an expert- all of us learn by making mistakes.
In fact, mistakes are another great way of gaining knowledge. Even after devastating consequences, one should not lose hopes, instead he/she must divide its focus in small fragments. Most of the time we focus on too many things at once, which sometimes leads to wastage of effort.
Digital education is a vast field and there are numerous institutions that offer elearning. In order to stand out of the rest, we need to do things that are uncommon.
Focusing only on gaining profit does not make us a good entrepreneur, but focussing on target audience does.
Sometimes we need to offer something valuable for free in order to gain users’ trust and attract potential customers. My advice for every entrepreneur is to focus more on quality and a bit less on gaining profits.
