What is motivation and how to get motivated?

Staff Motivation

Motivation is something very undesirable. Motivation is similar to when you tell yourself “I had better do this now, even though I don’t like doing it, because if I don’t, I’ll be in deep shit”.

That’s the wrong way to live your life, because every minute you are doing something you don’t like is a minute of discomfort, displeasure or lack-of-happiness that you will never get back.

We get self-motivation whenever; we struggle to fulfill any desires that can change our self-esteem and the worth of our assets or achievements.

To keep it moving smoothly it should reinforce you from within all the time.

Motivational speakers help you gear up from within but without self-practice and meditation the latter fades away with the passage of time.

This is a natural phenomenon that has to be nurtured from time to time and kept alive ready and prepared.

Now, let us move to the second part, “How to stay motivated?” Well, my perception is everyone is motivated by different things.

It might be something else for someone. So, understand what motivates you. That makes the difference between success and failure. But I will list out a few tricks that might help to drive a motivation.

  1. Understand your why: Every one of us will have goals and dreams. We start our journey with enthusiasm but it will step down at a point in time. Whenever you feel like stopping, remember why you have started this journey. What you want to become. That answer to why gives you the motivation to continue.
  2. Create a vision: I want to become an entrepreneur. I see myself at that place. You will have your own goal. See yourself in that position, where you want to be, how you want to be.
  3. Prepare a plan: A goal without a plan is just a wish. One of my friends had a knee injury. But he used a knee cap in order to run a marathon that he wanted to run. So, prepare a proper plan for your goal and execute it. The results that will come out of your plan give you the motivation to move ahead.
  4. Look at the bigger picture: When we start the journey of our goal many huddles fall in our place. Don’t stop because of that tiny one. Always look at the bigger picture and move.
  5. Break it down: Doing bigger tasks is always boring. So, always break down your tasks into the simplest ones.

These are the few tricks or strategies that help us to keep motivated. All the best for your successful journey.

Have a real reason for choosing to go in a certain direction.

  • Instead of seeing goal setting as a chore, turn it into a choice. Tell yourself, “I really want to see myself succeed in this area!” The benefit? It gives you a greater sense of control about what you’re doing. That’s much better than feeling like you’re reacting to things or you have an obligation to work towards someone else’s goal. For example, a goal set by parents.
  • Remind yourself of the reason for action with this question: “Why am I choosing this goal?” Make the connection with the initial reasons for working on something to begin with. It can be to learn a new skill, solve a problem that you’ve had for years, pass an exam to graduate from college, start your own business, etc.

Hold yourself accountable for your efforts.

  • After you’ve followed your plan of action for one week, ask yourself, did some activities take more time than you anticipated? If so, why?
  • What was easy? Why do you think it wasn’t as difficult as you initially thought?
  • What could you have done better? Where could you have used shortcuts?
  • How can you improve the following week? Can you dedicate a bit more time to one activity to make more progress towards your important goal?
  • How will you measure your success? Can you set milestones to reach each week or deadlines to stay on track? Will you measure your progress in a journal or spreadsheet?
