On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Monday said that the women in Gujarat state have been safe because of complete ban on liquor.
“Women’s security and safety is the responsibility of the state government. Since liquor is a social evil, we never gave any relaxation in the prohibition policy, relaxation in these restrictions would jeopardize the security of women.
The day we give relaxations, women will no longer be secure and safe ,” Vijay Rupani added while addressing the Assembly.
Unlike other countries where International Women’s Day celebrations are a one-day affair, respecting women is a part of Indian culture, he added.
Though Gujarat State has implemented 50% reservation for women in local bodies like civic corporations and district panchayats and 33% reservation for women in police recruitment, “it is desirable that more women are elected to the Assembly”, the Chief Minister said.
