Internationally world radio day is celebrated on 13th February every year. UNESCO decided to celebrate it on 3rd November 2011 during its 36th conference.
This day is celebrated to show the importance of Radio. This day serves to promote radio as a means of communication in the time of emergency.
It is believed that Guglielmo Marconi made the first radio transmission in 1895. In the early 1920s, the radio came into existence commercially.
Radio stations came into existence three decade later. During 1950s, radio and broadcasting system became a common commodity around the world.
The main reason of celebrating World Radio Day is to raise awareness among the public & media about the importance of radio.
History of Radio Day
Radio was discovered by Heinrich Hertz. Radio waves were operated at a frequency of 30 hertz and 300 gigahertz.
A device called a transmitter generates them. The transmitter is connected to the antennas.
It allows the radio waves to radiate. A radio receiver receives the waves & it is attached to another system of antennas.
How to celebrate Radio Day
The radio has many forms like, AM/FM, HAM, Shortwave, and many more. With all of these versions of radios, you may have one in your home, even if you do not have a standard AM/FM radio!
Actually, radio day is a great opportunity to remember all the days that we spent traveling with Walkman and enjoying the best and newest music broadcast from our local radio station.

In 1993, it began operations in Indore. At that time radio mirchi was named as Times FM. Now, radio mirchi has a presence in more than 33 cities including 6-metro cities of India. Radio mirchi charges more than double of the competition, means it is the costliest station.
My FM:
My FM 94.3 has a tag line “Joyo Dil Se”. Bhasker group launches the radio channel. It is operated under the brand name 94.3 My FM through the Subsidiary SMEL.
Recently it is present in 7 states and 17 cities like Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Udaipur, Ajmer, Surat, Bilaspur and Nagpur, Kota, Jabalpur and Raipur.
The channel concentrates on music, talk shows and other entertainment-oriented programs that offer significant interaction with listeners.
Big FM:
Big FM 92.7 has a tag line “Suno Sunao, Life Banao”. This is a nationwide private FM radio station in India.
Indian businessperson Anil Ambani owns this radio channel. It broadcasts at 92.7 MHz (92.7 FM).
This is the only private radio channel, which broadcasts from Srinagar & Jammu in the state Jammu & Kashmir.
It covers 45 cities currently. BIG FM included Singapore, the first city outside India, in its broadcasting network from 1st July 2008.

Red FM:

It plays Hindi, English & regional songs. Radio city has launched an online radio station Fun Ka Antena.

Dhamaal 24:
