Who is Yami Gautam?

Yami Gautam was born in a Hindu Brahmin family on 28 November 1988 in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. Her father Mukesh Gautam is a director of Punjabi films and vice president of PTC. Her mother Anjali Gautam is a housewife.

She has a younger sister Surili Gautam, who is a Punjabi actress, and a younger brother, Ojas Gautam, who is pursuing her studies.

She did her schooling at Yadavindra Public School of Chandigarh. She desired to become an IAS officer.

She enrolled herself in Panjab University of Chandigarh to pursue a graduate degree in law honors. Later Yami was inclined towards acting and modelling and left her law course after clearing the first year of her graduation.

Then, she shifted to Mumbai to pursue a career in acting. Yami was pursuing her graduation in law through correspondence in Mumbai in 2019.

When Yami Gautam was young, her grandfather opened a small school in Chandigarh. The entire family shifted to Chandigarh for his support. This is where Yami’s entire childhood passed.

Known for her strong acting

She started her career as a TV actor. There were no exciting projects coming her way, she decided she did not want to remain a TV actor. Then she decided to try something different.

Yami asked her parents to give her three to six months to prove her ability to do something in Bollywood.

Her father, however, was concerned about how she will support herself financially, for three to six months.

Story from her struggling days

Yami Gautam, made her debut in the Television industry with shows like Chand Ke Paar Chalo in which she played the role of ‘Sana.’, Yeh Pyar Na Hoga Kam as ‘Leher Mathur Vajpayee and many other TV shows.

She rose to fame after featuring in a series of Fair & Lovely, now Glow & Lovely TV advertisements directed by Anurag Basu in 2008. Yami also featuring in other TV advertisement like Chevrolet, Samsung Mobile, Revlon, and kwality walls Cornetto.

Yami Gautam appeared in the TV serial “Raajkumar Aaryyan” as ‘Rajkumari Bhairvi’.  In 2009, she made her Kannada film debut as ‘Mahalakshmi with the film “Ullasa Utsaha”’

In 2010, she also appeared in reality TV shows like “Kitchen Champion: Season 1” and “Meethi Choori No 1”

In 2011, she debuted in the “Ek Noor” a Punjabi film as ‘Rabiha.’, “Nuvvila” a Telugu film as ‘Archana.’, made her debut in the Malayalam film industry with the film “Hero” played the role of ‘Gauri Menon.’

She later, made her debut in Bollywood with Vicky Donor, played the role of ‘Ashima Roy’ pairing up opposite Ayushmann Khurrana.

After success of Vicky Donor, Yami Gautam happened to climb the ladder of success swiftly. She did many hit films like Total Siyapaa, Badlapur, Sanam Re, Action Jackson, Kaabil, Uri: The Surgical Strike.

Yami Gautam was last seen in Bala in the lead roles, along with Bhumi Pednekar and Ayushmann Khurana.

Yami Gautam played the role of Pari Mishra, who is a superficial TikTok star spends her entire day on social media. Critic and audience have not been able to stop appreciating Yami Gautam’s performance in the Bala.

Yami Gautam was rumoured to be in a relationship with Pulkit Samrat, the Indian actor. Yami Gautam tied the knot with Aditya Dhar, the Indian film director on 4 June 2021 in a private ceremony in Himachal Pradesh.

In 2012, she received BIG Star Entertainment Award for “Most Entertaining Actor (Film) Debut – Female”, 5th Boroplus Gold Award for “Rising Film Stars From TV” for the film ‘Vicky Donor’ and iTimes’s No. 12 Most Desirable Woman of 2012 & 2013

In 2013, Yami Gautam received IIFA Award for “Star Debut of the Year – Female” for the film ‘Vicky Donor’ and Zee Cine Award for “Best Female Debut”

In 2019 & 2020, she received Star Screen Award for “Best Comedian” and Lokmat Most Stylish Award for ‘Most stylish Unconventional Actress’ for the film ‘Bala’.

In 2021, she was featured on the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine including “Brunch,” “Elle,” and “Brides.”
