This is the interview of Yashu Kapila, Women Entrepreneurs and Founder of BugRaptors.

Who is Yashu Kapila

Yashu Kapila was born in Firozpur, the city is famous in Punjab and known as the land of martyrs. I completed my Bachelor’s degree from JDIMT (Jeevandeep Institute of Management and Technology) and master’s of computer application from the Regional Institute of Management and Technology.

Thereafter, I worked in several companies with job roles of Quality Consultant, QA Lead, Junior Quality Manager, Senior Quality Manager, Vice President, and then finally became the CEO from COO in 2016 in the software testing company named as BugRaptors.

How did you get your idea or concept for the business?

Yashu Kapila: In 2006, when I started my journey as a quality consultant, I found my interests in exploring and working on the current testing domain advancements.

About one to two years, I gave it to a manual testing. Then I made myself perfect in the automated testing domain, where I got a chance to learn about test automation strategy development, performance testing, API testing using custom tools, automated test data generation, test environment setup and configuration, test scripts migration, UI testing, and many more other automated services.

I always take an interest in managing key relationships with clients and even enroll myself for worldwide projects.

I was superior in communication and conducted so many scrums in different companies to interact with team members. I helped them in choosing the right testing tools and prepared many testing plans to fulfill the client’s specific requirements.

All such leadership qualities popped up an idea in my mind to start my own business in the software testing niche.

Today, BugRaptors is not only a reputed and independent company for software testing services but also popular as a third-party vendor.

We have over 1k clients from different parts of the world and the best testing teams to cater to the multiple QA needs of any-sized business.

What service(s) or product(s) do you offer?

Yashu Kapila: At BugRaptors, we offer mainly three kinds of services that are standard QA services, specialized QA services, and test advisory services.

Our standard QA services include manual testing services such as functional testing, compatibility testing, and user acceptance testing.

Whereas, there are a wide array of services that we offer in the specialized QA services like security testing, big data testing, cloud testing, automation testing services, including mobile test automation, web test automation, selenium testing, and others are ERP testing services that cover CRM & SAP testing.

Performance testing also comes under our specialized type of QA services, in which we mainly provide JMeter testing.

Some more are salesforce testing, blockchain testing, AL & ML testing, IOT testing, Compliance with GDPR. All of these latest services vary from each other, but we involve them in Agile & DevOps testing services.

TCOE Setup (Test Center of Excellence) tool feasibility services, Datawarehouse, ETL testing, Globalization, Localization & API testing are the major test advisory services that we offer to different domains from healthcare, banking, e-commerce, utility, telecommunication, media, banking, insurance, education to real estate businesses.

What is unique about your business?

Yashu Kapila: The ability to ensure 0% defect leakage, 100% flexibility in work, more than 30% reduction in time-to-market of customer’s products, real-time collaboration, transparency, loyalty, on-time delivery guarantee, effective testing methodologies, and a CMMI level 5 brand makes BugRaptors unique from its competitors.

What made you choose this type of business?

Yashu Kapila: The reason to start a business in software testing was my excitement, passion, leadership, knowledge, logical thinking, confidence, experience, and intelligence in coding, which inspired me to be a CEO (Chief Executive Officer).

I made a strong profile as an automation tester where I gave much time in finding the bugs from the software application and indulged myself in various roles from operation head, release manager, presales manager, consultant to deliver quality-made products to customers.

Moreover, I always have a habit of interacting with team members and stakeholders and helping them fulfill their simple to complex testing needs.

All such qualities enabled me to build a brand, a company for software testing services where giving an exceptional quality is the biggest intention.

What was your mission at the outset?

Yashu Kapila: Well, the BugRaptors (a Seasia group of Companies) is a CMMI Level 5 company in India and worldwide.

A few years back, the mission was to give our customers defect-free and ROI-generated testing solutions.

Due to the latest technologies, advanced test automation tools, Agile & DevOps best practices, we’ve started working on the Capacity Augmentation in Functional and Automation Testing, BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) model, and independent validation & verification (IV & V) services.

Moreover, we have exaggerated the numbers of employees. In 2016, there were hardly 50-100 manual testers, but now we have a team of about 500 ISTQB, ISO 9001:2018 and ISO 27001 certified both manual and automation testers who have a detailed understanding of several industry verticals and proven experience in effective testing and QA solutions.

As we mentioned, our mission was to help our clients remove bugs and generate handsome revenue.

Today, we also give the same defect-free and ROI-generated testing services, but now we ensure to provide scalability, reliability, maintainability, security, 100% flexibility, and quality for all types of testing of complex and basic applications.

How many employees in your organization?

Yashu Kapila: Again, we have around 500 skillful and dedicated employees in our organizations who work consistently to meet the unique requirements of businesses.

What’s your company’s goals?

Yashu Kapila: Providing satisfaction to our clients with quality services all the time is some of our company’s goals.

We want to help them take their business to the next level and have the vision to be the biggest industry player.

Right now, BugRaptors is a software testing and QA service provider for North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and South America. Still, we want to be a loyal vendor for the rest of all other regions of the world.

How do you build a successful customer base?

Yashu Kapila: Customers are the lifeblood of our business. Without them, we are nothing. So, we love to connect them on different social media channels and use our platform (Website) to communicate with them.

We understand their requirements and suggest improvements that are needed for their businesses.

We offer them a guarantee on bug reporting, quality and provide them reliable solutions to minimize the cost while testing for products.

Apart from that, we offer them discounts on festivals and many more rewards to build a long-lasting relationship with them.

What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them?

Yashu Kapila: I believe failure is necessary for personal growth. For us, failure is a bug in software testing that we sometimes leave accidentally while testing the entire software application.

Previously, when we used the waterfall model, we didn’t have an allowance to make frequent changes in the project or get customer feedback during the testing phase. We gave our 10-15 hours and sometimes more to test each phase of the software.

At the end, when our project was in the complete stage, we wanted to make a minor change in the designing part, but that was not possible in the waterfall model.

So, we again started the testing process from the beginning and provided our client all such features that he had demanded from us.

We made our client happy, but in return, we had to pay more to our developer and that process became so time-consuming for us.

Soon, we started to search for the alternative of a waterfall model because we wanted to give 100% customer gratification, quality, and superiority to other client’s products and make their application risk-free. We also wanted to provide them with benefits in terms of time and cost.

After researching a lot, we came to the solution, which was Agile, and it became a game-changer for us when we worked on other client’s projects.

It allowed us to increase flexibility, customized the features, improved the project’s predictability and our team’s morale.

Similarly, it helped us to give much more suggestions to our clients for their betterment.

It allowed us to collaborate with all team members, including stakeholders, to meet all their unique requirements.

The lesson I learned on that day was ‘Know Your Limits’ and always stay updated on the latest testing trends.

Today, at BugRaptors, we have over 100 physical devices, various mobile labs, plenty of modern testing frameworks, both DevOps and Agile best practices, the knowledge of new-age technologies such as AI & ML, test automation strategies, and many more resources that we utilize properly to give as much as benefits to our customers.

Who has been your greatest inspiration?

Yashu Kapila: My clients are my biggest inspiration because they bring new challenges for the company through their projects which excite me to use my logical thinking at the beyond level and energize me to release the software with zero bugs and 100% quality, security & reliability.

What are some of the biggest mistakes you’ve made?

Yashu Kapila: Humans are prone to mistakes. The biggest mistake which we made in 2016 was the less number of hiring in our company.

During that time, we got a wide variety of applications for testing in bulk. As we never ever compromise with the quality.

Instead of having a greed of so many projects, we handed over a few of them from the clients and provided them with the best customer experience.

After that, we started to maximize our company’s strength and acquired testing projects from different industries such as Real Estate, E-Commerce, Insurance, Financial Domain, Healthcare, Telecommunication to Media.

Being a reputed independent software testing company in India, we hired domain experts to provide many testing services.

Our testers are not even less because they have an in-depth understanding of various businesses, advanced QA automation strategies, mindful thinking, and have access to 100+ physical devices to test multiple and advanced technology-based solutions such as games, mobile apps, web apps, and more.

They have domain expertise with modern technologies like ML, Big Data, AI, blockchain, IoT, Agile & DevOps, which they use an advantage to give exceptional results to our customers and stay ahead in the competition.

If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?

Yashu Kapila: Never rush for 1000 customers. First, focus on what you already have, try to provide them quality, risk-free, and cost-effective solutions.

Be an active listener, consistent, and make a habit of getting customers’ feedback that can help you become a much better version of yourself as an entrepreneur or as the boss of the company.

Does your company help the community or society?

Yashu Kapila: Yes, we actively give our contribution on Twitter and other DevOps forum channels to stay connected with coders and help them update on the latest testing trends.

Also, we offer training in our company and participate in some workshops to help society grow as software testers.
